Following the example by the Invincible thread I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were about Noble Causes. I have never read the book, but I have heard good things. So what is the book about, and what do you think of it?
Thanks |

Noble Causes is easily one of the best books on the stands today, up there with Invincible, Jack Staff, and Savage Dragon. It's got a team dynamic that's very unique, kinda Fantastic Four-ish, but able to push the boundres of a "Family Team" further then a "mainstay" like FF can afford too. The Soap-Opera side of the coin is balanced perfectly with cool Action/Adventure situations, it's alot like the (new) Battlestar Galactica of comics in that respect.
So, it's awesome, go forth and buy the Trades (There are 3 now, with a fourth on the way) and beholdith the splendor.

It has it's following but, to be honest, it didn't grab me like I hoped it would. Granted, I've only read the first trade. Perhaps I should give the next one a try. Some series grow on you the more you read.

It's one of the best series out there. I like how it crosses over with Invincible now and then, and Jay Faerber(is that how the name is spelled?) is the writer, so we got to see a Venture crossover before it became late...

Great series, fun to read.
It's basically The Kennedys with superpowers. But entertaining.

CHRISTOPHER BURTON! I was once in your camp. NC didn't grab me off the bat, but I decided to pick it all up one day on a lark. Let me tell you...more addictive than snorting coke off a hooker's supple ass. Faerber is an evil man. He sucks you in with these soap-operatic stories. Even the scene changes are very Knot's Landing/Dynasty. It's sooooo much fun. Characterization is out of this world, and Jay loves a cliffhanger and does them well. With complete confidence I say that Noble Causes is the most fun I have reading a superhero drama since I was a child and Byrne and Claremont were on the X-Men. Only read NC if you want pure, uncut entertainment. That's what it is. Pure and Simple.

I've recently read all the trades and scrounged up the newer, non-trade-yet issues, and I like it very well (enough to list it as one of my "top 10" books on my pull list). I like ensemble books and team books, and I appreciate the fact that not everyone in the book is between the ages of 19-21. The characterizations are distinct and I particularly like the fact that the characters all have faults, some more major than others, rather than being the standard "noble heroes" (Okay, that was a pun, and a bad one.)
I'm still on the fence over bringing back Race and a little confused over how the returned Race was the SAME Race, but that is just a sign of how involved with the plot I am, rather than an indication of a problem. |
