Okay, in my spare time I'm trying to write 12 scripts for 12 consecutive issues of what I would do if I were the regular writer on a Batman title. I don't expect the silly things to ever be published, but I figure writing them anyway will be an educational experience.
One thing I've already realized is that I remember very little detail about Bruce Wayne's college career (if I ever knew much about it, which I'm not sure I did!). Especially as it might have been retconned post-Crisis and post-Zero Hour and so forth. So I'm asking for other people's opinions on what they think the current continuity is supposed to be about his educational background and so forth before he became Batman. (Yes, I do know that DC is apparently taking the position that long-term continuity ain't half as important as it used to be, but I'm still stubborn enough to hope people can tell me the "in continuity" answers to a few basic questions about Bruce Wayne's pre-Batman experiences as they have been reflected in "modern" continuity of the last 5 or 10 years! Call me a hopeless dreamer!) QUESTIONS 1. As it now stands, did Bruce Wayne ever earn and receive a bachelor's degree? 2. If so, what was his major? (I think it used to be criminology but I don't know if that's still valid.) 3. Again, if the answer to #1 is Yes, do we know what university, real or fictional, gave him the degree? 4. I seem to recall that one of the "Zero" issues that came out right after Zero Hour had one panel (in a retelling of his origin) that casually mentioned that young Bruce Wayne had actually joined the FBI and then gave it up after six weeks, presumably because it was too much paperwork at a desk and too little action on the streets. Has that ever been repeated or developed to "nail it down" as part of Batman's modern continuity, or was it just a cute little throwaway line that promptly sank without a trace into comic book limbo, never to be heard from again?

1) No, he's never earned a college degree. He went from school to school, taking one or two classes in particular, and moved on.
2) Criminology, chemistry, psychology, probably engineering, and maybe a few other classes that ended in "ology." 3) N/A 4) That Zero issue you touched on hasn't been revisited.

I seem to recall that Bruce briefly attended the FBI Academy before he abandoned the idea of pursuing a career in conventional law enforcement. I don't think he ever graduated from the course or ever actually served as a Special Agent.

1 & 3. Please don't ask me the source, But I read somewhere that Bruce attended Cambridge, The Sorbornne (University of Paris) and some German Science School. He must have achieved a degree from at least one institution because, he got into the FBI and you need a Bachelor degree (at least) to qualify.
http://www.allcriminaljusticeschools...hp?src=goto110 2. I would at least say that he majored in business. Probably 'dabbled' in science, psychology and philosphy. Maybe math. 4. In the Bruce Wayne: Fugitve vol. 1, TPB (issue 68 of Nightwing) Alfred goes over the fact that Bruce attended FBI training for a short time. But it's only mentioned. |

I just went over my secret origins trade. And apparently the FBI waved the criteria for Bruce to have a degree in order for him to get in. Something I find a bit hard to swallow, as the FBI is supposed to be a police agency not a country club. |
