It's a fun series, but it ends on a cliffhanger. The story was supposed to be wrapped up in a special drawn by Jim Lee, but it never materialised. It's a shame, because it really just leaves it hanging quite badly. IMO it sould never have been marketed as a 6 issue miniseries in the first place.

It bothers me because surely there'd be enough intrest to make it worth putting into trade form and getting someone to draw the final issue - not Lee though, the other artists inolved suited it more.

If ABC sells, surely this would?

Actually it was Liefeld. Later they talked about updating the story to the current Image universe. Don't know how they'll explain Shaft if they ever do it.

Besides the 6 issues, the characters also appeared in ShadowHawk #14 and one or two issues of Big Bang Comics.

I think the whole point was that the final issue would be drawn in the 90's Image house style. The final issue ended up withspoilers:
a 90's Image style villain threatening all of the retro heroes
end of spoilers so that style would fit

As much as I love Alan Moore's work, this thread really belongs on the Image board, so I am moving it there. :)

Thanks Bev!

1963 was a great little series. I think it would be cool if they got a bunch of veteran creators who were working in the 60s and 70s and do a big jam issue as the conclusion.

i have only read 2 issues so far but what modern Image characters were involved that would bring about copyright problems? the 2 issues i read had none in it that i noticed.

has there been any movement to conclude the series?? what would be the hold up?

Not that I've heard of. Perhaps the main hold-up is that Alan Moore isn't too involved in comics these days. The ABC line is continuing with other creators at the helm. The Albion series is, I think, plotted by him, but that may be the extent of it. It sounds like he's just more interested in non-comics projects lately.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had some ideas or plots or something stashed away in his files. It would be cool if he passed those on to some collaborators who were interested in finalizing the series.

Red face

I just read them all, and am wishing for the annual to come out........... but alas, it was good while it lasted, although the annual is the main reason this was made, to show the changes over 30 years. Heres to a new issue of Fell while I'm at it! Haha

I bought the first issue back in the day and never read it.
I recently bought #3 and 4 and they were really good! Even the letters page was great!

I got recommended by CBR's Comic Books You Must Own. It truly is a wonderful series. The best stuff is the adverts, like the Stalin=Satin ad. I do recommend reading them all though as there are a lot of things that are only explained by reading the last book.

I too saw the write up, and thought I would revisit the series. I thought I had the whole run but was disappointed to find out that I only had 1,2,3, & 6.

It was my understanding that Moore had a falling out with Steve Bissette and grew disinterested in writing superheroes. Chances are the series will never be finished.
