It took a while, but I'm starting to like 'City of Crime'.
This issue was a particularly good one, opening with a great fight scene - Batman versus a horde of masked lunatics. The rest of the issue has an incredibly ominous atmosphere, as creepy dopplegangers start to take over the city. It had a slow build-up, but if the rest of the story is this good, I'll rate it highly. Also, there's the backup story, which I loved. It's rare these days that you see a Batman try that's actually fun, but this story was fun. 'They always go for the car.'

Another good issue. I'm liking this arc...very dark, very gritty...the kind of stuff that belongs in a Batman Detective story.
And for once, the backup didn't suck.

I think the last time I read the backup stories was when A.J. Lieberman was writing them.
So we're a couple issues removed from Penguin sitting in elevator with an exploding Tony. What gives? How could he survive that?

I realize this is all taking place in a silly world where normal rules don't apply, but that was some explosion! Blow the top off a building, and Pengi is sitting right next to the bomb? Oh well. I was a bit surprised that we weren't shown a glimpse of him in 804 or 805.

I liked it, but the plot is a bit confusing, made worse by the darkness of the art. Speaking of dark, I haven't read a comic book story this depressing in, well, forever.

Yeah, I was confused a bit too much as well. The art is just ok, and the characters weren't too disinct which didn't help with the sudden twists. Though upon thinking about it, the story wasn't as bad as it was with the initial confusion.

I'm probably enjoying the story more than some because I flip through the previous issue each time a new one comes out.

I'm not enjoying this arc at all. The crap with Penguin was the deal breaker. The crazed, masked, martial artists in the recent issue have made me keep picking it up and reading it on the stands, but I'm not buying for the rest of the arc.

I too enjoyed the back up, it was a nice little comic story to offset the overall grimness of this arc, which i'm enjoying a lot. I think Mr Freeze is being portrayed well in this volume, and i'm sure the Penguin situation will be explained in the next seven issues.
