Default 19-year old Dick Grayson is sentenced to maximum security prison

For some strange reason, 19-year old Dick Grayson (at about the time he made the switch from Robin to Nightwing) has been sentenced to maximum security prison for a year. During this time, for equally strange reasons, Dick is cut off from all contact with the Batfamily, the Teen Titans, and all other associates in the outside world. Even Batman/Bruce Wayne is strangely unable to help him in any way.

This is a maximum security prison for the worst of the worst...sadistic murderers and rapists who like to cause pain and death slowly and painfully. All of them are large men towering over 6 feet tall and made of muscle. All are hardened criminals convicted of multiple counts of murder and rape. Each has no sense of morality or mercy...they live to maim and kill, and are often locked in cages isolated from one another for their own and others' protection.

It's Dick's first day in prison. The worst of the prisoners has identified Dick as some "punk ass pretty boy" and vows to teach him a lesson...rounding up about 10 of his guys to help him. They are armed with shivs and other makeshift weapons often seen at maximum security prison.

Dick has no access to the weapons or equipment he used as Robin or Nightwing. He is entirely on his own. All he has at his disposal are his skills, training, experience (his years as Batman's partner and as leader of the Titans...but remember, he's only 19), and innate toughness and courage.

What will happen to Dick after one week? One month? One year?

It's prison. So like in every prison movie ever, all he has to do is beat the crap out of the toughest guy there and make him his bitch and he'll be fine.

In other words, overkill.

The hard part would be not maiming these guys.

Left strictly alone, but occasionally gets into it to prevent abuse of others.

After getting involved in a series of violent fights with the other inmates, he would be put in solitary confinement for the rest of his life and that would pretty much be the end of the story.

. . .until he decided he didn't feel like being in prison anymore, and remember the E&E training he got.

I figure he'll be in prison until he gets bored, maybe a week or two, if that.

I don't think so. We're talking about the 19-year-old Dick Grayson here, the Bronze Age Nightwing. Back in those days, non-powered heroes were not the omnipotent beings they are today. Of course, these days, Dick would probably edge his way out of his cell through the keyhole, or dig a tunnel with his teeth, but the old Nightwing would need outside help to escape the solitary confinement unit of a maximum security prison.

Who was still quite competent in his own right, and who was good enough at the h-t-h to own the average prison yard full of thugs when he was 16, let alone 19.

I just wanted to cool the flames before the thread degenerated into mindless Dick-waving, that's all. ;)

'19-year old Dick Grayson', the guy who happened to be written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by George Perez, *was* the most competent and capable version of Nightwing/Robin we ever saw. The Nightwing we see now is a pallid shallow of the man he used to be.
