Default Iceman the Underrated X-Man

Correct me if you think I'm wrong, but isn't Iceman one of the most under used and underrated characters these days. I don't think writers use him well in the Marvel Universe or the Ultimate Universe. He's almost like a second string super hero. I lost interest in the X-Men for that reason, so maybe someone can let me know if any storylines have been centered around him recently. He is one of the original X-men, and has been around since the 60's and I can't remember a recent story centered around him. I miss the days of the original X-factor and I wish Iceman would get his own solo book instead of Mystique, or even Rogue. I think Iceman could hold his own in a solo book or as leader of one of the many X-teams if written correctly.......

I think he is a bit underrated, yes, but he also is less interesting now that he is permanantly in ice form. Its just harder for me to connect to him.

We all know that Iceman is under rated in power stature for sure. Although Austen did do alright in some places.

But no stroyline recently has completely revolved around him, except Austen's Let's-make-Iceman-completely-Ice thing.

I'm just waiting for a writer to use him in a w ay where he'd flip out and use his powers properly.

I don't know about that. Of the original five, Warren is pretty much the most underused and underrated characters these days. Look how long he was limbo after reloaded. Bobby had a lot of development, and he's always pretty much been active on a team. I do miss the old days, and would love to see a new 'X-Factor' so we could have Scott, Jean, Beast, Bobby, and Warren together again. :)

Bobby is certainly immature, but I would not call him a homophobe. Chris Claremont captured Bobby's immaturity perfectly in Classic X-Men #1 as his reaction to the "new" X-Men.

Iceman is my fave X-Man and it certainly does tick me off that he is rarely used these days.
His power level is amazing yet writers would still rather see him throw bits of ice. I hated the story arc, but Day of the Atom Iceman hurling Juggernaut about and using water to increase him mass to something like 60 feet+. It's about time his powers were used properly- i had hope many years ago when Frost took over his body and he decided to focus on using his powers better. Seeing the AoA version was also good, but then nothing really developed from this.
Iceman has been given no story lines of real interest and has been written extremely poorly recently.
I still hope this changes, but I doubt it.

Iceman used to be one of my favorite X-Men.

But lately he's lost his spark. The permanent ice thing makes him less interesting, definitely. Plus, I liked his costume while Austen was writing him. He looked so cool. Now he looks bland again. Even if he has no need for clothes, why not ice himself up a new hairdo once in a while?

I hope Milligan ditches the permafrost thing soon.

But I also hope he keeps up with the Alex/Lorna/Bobby triangle. It's starting to return my interest in Iceman.

I agree on most of that. The purple trench coat and glasses looked cool. Is that what costume you mean?

But I think Milligan is doing an alright job on him so far. Hey, he has only been on for three issues, so I would give him more of a chance to develop Bobby. iceman's talk wit Wolverine about Lorna was nice. I thought that was well-written.

In Warren Ellis' Planetary, the main character Elijah Snow essentially has the same powers as Iceman('cept he's not an ice sculpture :D ) and he is written as an incredibly powerfull person. In otherwords, something that Iceman is clearly not. I will always hope that sometime in the future Iceman will get a chance to shine and be used properly.

I completely disagree with that. I personaly think Angel is one of the most useless X-Men ever. His power level is pretty weak and as a character I've been nothing but bored with him. I'd put him on the list of expendable X-Men for sure. The fact that someone thinks he is underrated, makes me think even more so that he's overrated.

Yeah, that costume was the coolest. I know the Reload returned the X-Men to their "classic" costumes, but I wish Bobby would've kept some derivation of the trench coat. Come on, who else can pull off a freakin' purple trench coat? Pssht, and Northstar thought he was gay. :D

Like I said, I'm excited to see Bobby and Lorna's relationship grow. His chat with Wolvie WAS very exciting, and I can't wait to see more little conversations like that. I have full hopes that Milligan will restore my love for Iceman.

Bobby is- and will always be- my absolute favourite X-Man.
Possibly even my favourite Marvel character, and that would make him my absolute favourite comic character.
His powers are cool, his personality is interesting and different and I can't bring myself to love the 3 guys of the original X-Men of years past- Iceman, Angel and Beast are true champions for Xaviers cause.
And personally, though I love him dearly, I think Warren is by far the most underrated original team member.

i want to see the relationship grow, but not romantically. i want Bobby to slowly realise that Lorna places him solely in the "your such a good friend to me" camp and will lead him on/flirt a little but has no intention of letting it go any further.

and for Bobby ... it's a destined-to-fail attempt to assert some heterosexuality, taking us a step closer to his being outed, hopefully by Milligan, but probably never. i think the best comic writers recognise the potential in having his unconfirmed homosexuality a running joke and realise that by confirming it, the joke stops being funny. so better for them to keep him closeted.

Iceman is hugely under-rated and under-used, both as a person and in terms of his powers. right now i only have the hope that his powers will be better-used sometime soon.

He's not underused but his powers are. He can do a lot but holds back. Part of the kid still in him?

He rocked in Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. C'mon! You knew someone was going to mention that when you started this thread.

I would really like to see a book with the original five as the stars, nobody else. Bobby and Warren especially need more time. I really wish they would give him his human form back, because now he cant go anywhere incognito, it takes away from the appeal of the character.
