Default An amazing graphic novel by Image: "ASCEND"

www.preparetoascend.com

Wow. Guys, you have to check out this graphic novel. I have NEVER seen artwork like this. Absolutely amazing. It borders on "photorealism" (artwork that can mimic photographs) Just a beatiful haunting graphic novel about arc-angels that are "punished" by being sent to live on Earth among the humans for a bit. But one of them has his own ideas of how to get "revenge" and set things straight.

It's on the stands right now. You will be blown away by the art. I know I was.

I actually picked this up when it was released and was very excited to see Christopher Shy doing his first full comic. He's a great artist, he's done some fill-ins previously but never a full graphic novel. Unfortunately, Ascend didn't have much of an intriguing storyline to go alone with Shy's awesome art. There's absolutely no pulp in there unfortunately, just a simple story that makes the writer look like this is his first and hopefully last story.

I hate the artwork--looks like blobs of water colors.
But if you like the artwork, check out IDW Publishing--a lot of their books has the same type of artwork, particular the Steve Niles books.

As a matter of fact, you can read the entire first issue to 30 Days of Night, along with other previews, on his site: Steve Niles' works

I thought it was terrible, I love Shy, he's a great artist espesialy all the art he did for the PnPRPGs Transhuman Space, Godlike, and random World of Darkness stuff. But Ascend was very pretty to look at with no substance.

If you want to read GOOD OGNs from image check out Wonderland: Children of the Future Age, Heaven LLC, or Tommysaurus Rex

You know, the story was kind of "thin". But sometimes I don't mind. I guess some graphic novels are nice "eye candy" you know what I mean? But you're all right. The story could have been more involved. I just loved the artwork so much, the story kind of played "second fiddle" for me. LOL. Thanks for the links guys. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this book but with a more involved story line.
