Ahh misleading covers, Larsen has turned them into an art unto themselves.
Savage Dragon wants your vote! but not really. Savage Dragon officially anounces his candidacy for president on live TV days before the election then gets attacked by a guy with a starfish on his chest, the real Dragon watches from home with his family but decides to do nothing because its Haloween and he has to take Angel and mister Glum trick or treating. Jens(Dragons newly de-powered wife) new role in this series seems to be to point out all the illogical thinking that goes on, only to be ignored. As Soulstar beats up the robot dragon some chick named Skylark shows up and... you know what? so much happens in this damn book each month that it would take me forever to recap all of it, if you haven't read this go buy it now then come back and make coments. I like the end of the issue, liked hearing who all the characters voted for and I like how Larsen handled the 'exciting revelation' its not a big cliffhanger 'everything changes' ending its handled so we know exactly whats happening without haviong it shouted from the roof tops. The Backup story features Dart and Sara (the spikey orange thing) First what the hell is Sara? She's spikey and orange and has a dinosaur head but the artist in the backup story gives her 'lady curves' its a bit disturbing. Other than that the back up seems well done and I'll be interested to see how it developes. and finally Comic Bits: hey! you can read this one either horizontaly or verticly! are they all like that? or just this one? That is all. Last edited by Doug W : 02-27-2005 at 05:28 PM. |

this issue was pure and utter crap! once again, the only thing being enjoyable was mr. glum.
the dart backup was also very enjoyable. the bits were on par for usual. BUT MAN, I was disappointed in this garbage of the main story! Issue was very late, and erik is now a very busy man, but...no need to hand out this...crap!

Man what has Eric done to The Savage Dragon? Compare the book now to what it was like in the early stages of Image. It was one of my favorite comics out there. Great artwork, fights, story, now it is all weirded out with weird characters and stuff. Larsen has really alienated alot of his fans.

If you haven't read it since those early issues you won't realize just how naturally and smoothly the book has progressed to this point. The 90s have been over for some time - if you can't live with that go read Shatterstar.

Sigh.
This isn't the end of it. this really is leading somewhere. If you don't like the book now--wait a few months and it'll be something else entirely.

I recently read a my full run of Savage Dragon.
I have to say the post-100 issues with the Dragon family have been the best so far. I wasn't a fan of the Savage World stuff when it came out but upon rereading, it's been the best the comic has ever looked and refreshed the series laying the ground work for the current SD world.

I just hate the whole Dragon family concept. Bring him back as a cop.

Yes because stagnation is the best thing for storytelling. Dragon is one of the few heroes that ligitimatly Changes over time, that's what makes him unique and cool. I havn't completely jived with "Family Man Dragon" either, but it's still enjoyable and it's different then what's come before. I have HIGH hopes that "President Dragon" era will be Uniquely different then what's come before as well. Just the way Savage Dragon has always strived to change it up over time. |

I've recently just got back into SD and found myself not really digging the current stuff. But after a few issues I was loving it again. I re-read the run I have (1mini-80) and catching up back issues and I realize the changes were always there. But as someone pointed out, they happen so smoothly that you dont really notice unless you skip several months worth.
Its so much fun re-reading the series again, and seeing how much growth and change Dragon has gone through as a character. You almost feel like you grow with him. In fact, I actually have. I was 14 when I first started reading SD and now I'm 22. Its insane. Anywho, as Erik said if you dont like where things are now, just wait. It'll change. They always do. SD doesnt have a status quo. Its kinda scary, you never know what to expect! |

I´ve been there from the beginning. I was 16 when
I started reading the Dragon and you know what -- I guess I still am … :D Can´t wait for the next issues. I wonder what Glum is up to and how Dragon will pull it off. Erik, I really hope you get this book back on track - the wait is killing me
