Thumbs down Armor X

Is Champagne trying to capitalize on those Marvel readers who'll buy anything with an X on it? Maybe they'll blindly buy it thinking it's from Marvel...

So the concept stems from Peter Parker...with a sentient/symbiotic armor...so Peter Parker meets Venom meets Iron Man? I wonder if this was a failed pitch to Marvel before he trotted this idea to the folks at Image.

I think I'll pass. Who needs gritty comics from Image when we get plenty of that from Marvel & DC nowadays? Not me.

Originally, the book was called simply ARMOR but because Neal Adams still holds the trademark to that title for use in comics, we had to come up with something quickly for the solicitations.

The 'X' refers to the fact that there are ten suits of armor out there in all, although if mutant lovers get confused and buy copies, you won't hear me complain.

No, it wasn't a failed pitch at Marvel. That's very cynical of you.

Sorry the book doesn't sound like your cup of tea. I'm pretty proud of what we've put together.

Take care,

Keith

I ordered it, but if it's just another anti-hero who doesn't give a **** about innocent life book I'll probibly drop it hard. But the whole "hero rising above his personal venditas" angle looks promising, so I have hope.

Have you considered if the book takes place in the Image U yet?

I'm gonna wait for a few reviews but it sounds quite interesting to me. It all depends where Champ takes it.

Wow if your not interested then give it a pass no need to be an ass about it.I going to give it a try I love Andy Smith. Keith Champagnes Wildfire issue in LSH was one of my favorite LSH stories in a while.

Dave, thanks for the nice words about my Legion issue, that's really cool and appreciated.

I don't have any plans to tie ARMOR X in w/ the Image Universe; it is it's own beast for good or bad.

Thanks for commenting, much appreciated.

Default Armor X

Keith Champagne and Andy Smith talk about their upcoming Armor X over at The Pulse. I think it's interesting how Image is publishing several different teen superhero comics, but each with it's own spin.

The Pulse is featuring 11 Armor X preview pages. Take a gander.

And for those looking for even more on "Armor-X," don't miss our own interview with Keith Champagne from December.

alright i just read this book, honestly i thought it was very very bad, i hated the main character, i wanted him to get his ass kicked, too many generic people, especially the football players. Also there was a panel with the main character's room, he has posters of P.O.D. on his walls, worst band of all time,
The dialouge was pretty awful, eg. "Freaky Deaky", "You bent him like Beckham!",
The part that i don't really understand is the fact that the kid has a bag full of guns and really is going to go to the prom and shoot his schoolmates, how can the writers expect the readers to feel anything for this character?
The only thing that can save this book for me, is if the main character gets killed and somebody who i can like gets the armor (and has a better taste in music)

edit: i did like the art work and the armor design

I've posted a full review of issue #1 on my blog, above, for anyone who's interested.

I have to say, I think many of you are missing the point. Yeah, the main character is pretty rough. The Columbine thing makes him pretty unlikeable. But good lord - do we really need YET ANOTHER Peter Parker? Some plucky young turk who rises above all odds to become a shining light in the world? Isn't that story TIRED by now?

This looks like a rougher-edged story with a character I'm not sure I like. To me, that alone makes it worth taking a look.

Although, yeah, I wasn't thrilled by the letterman-jacketed jock-thugs. Hopefully they'll take more of a back seat next issue.

i'm all for unusual heros, i just think this first issue was executed poorly, mostly by making the hero a complete and utter tool, if he went to my high school i probably would have made fun of him too, yeah i was a bully,
there is no way this dude can redeem himself in my eyes after he was about to shoot up his classmates,

from what i read of the previews, i actually like the idea. but it's get's old when everyone who stumbles across some sort of powers becomes the tortured hero. there are *ahem* people who would act otherwise. i haven't read it yet, so i don't know, but as long it avoids the "wanted" level of extremes, sounds like it has potential.

Seriously. If I wanted that, I'd just read the gazillion Spider-Man titles Marvel churns out every month. Better yet, I'd just pick up the Essential Spider-Man Vol. 1 where it was done first and best.
