Default Whose Daredevil run is better: Brubaker or Bendis?

I've been wanting to get more in DD, which run is better- Brubaker's or Bendis?

I know Miller's is the best but the Omnibus is a bit too much.

I think there's a pretty good split here (and some other threads if you want to search). I personally prefer the Bendis run, but I liked Brubaker's too.

I think you should start from the beginning of Bendis' run, in large part because a lot of the Brubaker stuff flows out of it. You'll appreciate Brubaker's run more if you have the background that's been built up over the past few years with Bendis. Without it, you'll kind of be walking into the middle of a story.

Just pick up the first Bendis trade and go from there.

I personally like Brubaker's better. I find the dialog, overall tone, and the artwork(especially the artwork) to be better than what Bendis did.

However, everyone and their grandma is gonna recommend you get Bendis' run, which isn't a bad choice(just an inferior one, IMO).

Has Bendis entire run been collected in Ominbus form yet, I know the last half of Brubaker's run gets collected this February.

It says Volume 1 is by Brubaker and Volume 2 is Bendis?

Oh boy. First off I'm not a big fan of Bendis. The only series I liked that he wrote was Ultimate Spider-Man. I dropped his DD after his first arc. I love Bru but I felt his DD felt like Bendis-lite. Honestly I wish Marvel would go in a different direction for DD since it seems like every writer since Miller seems to be trying to imitate Miller's classic run. The only runs in recent memory that were different enough for me to enjoy were Karl Kesel/Cary Nord's late 90's run & the first 14 issues of the MK relaunch. I am trying Andy Diggle's first arc...but I feel it is still a variation on Miller's stuff....

Just checked it out; ouch! Marvel isn't too good with keeping its early Omnibus' in print(Morrison's New X-men, Ennis' Punisher, Bendis' Daredevil).

Don't worry, the Brubaker Omnibus still is!

Actually, this series has been great since Kevin Smith relaunched it. I recommend starting there and enjoying it all because it all has been great. Bendis has his high points and Bru does too. Diggle's is starting out good too.

Miller's run exists in 3 TPBs that were recently reprinted.

If you only have money for one, get the second.

But before that, get Miller's Born Again

and Man Without Fear

Bendis run is the best. He was simply the first writer to make us all actually appreciate DD without looking through the lense of Frank Miller's work. He rejuvenated Daredevil and made him an even stronger character.

Bendis Volume 2 is.... I think it's best if I get whatever was printed first... That way I don't have to shell out a wad to get it later. I really liked Brubaker's though. I read Lady Bullseye and another trade the other day. DD became leader of the Hand, I forgot what the name was though.

Miller puts his own stamp on established cast member such as reporter Ben Urich, femme fatale Black Widow, mad assassin Bullseye, the saw-fisted Gladiator, and monstrous crime boss Kingpin. Miller also introduced Daredevil's mysterious mentor Stick, deadly ninja foes the Hand, and Matt's long-lost love Elektra, a beautiful assassin who would become one of Marvel's most memorable characters. Mixing traditional super-heroics with mysterious martial aristry, doomed romance, and dark personal drama, Miller's character-defining DD run is collected across three titanic trade paperbacks! Collects Daredevil #173-184.

But first - Born Again and Man Without Fear.

Volume One, Miller was just drawing. In Volume Two, he starts writing too. The Hand, Electra, Stick, Kingpin, Bullseye...half of those things he created, and the other half his characterzation has pretty much become the staple.

That said, I DETEST Frank Miller's artwork, which is why I think Born Again is so awesome. You get the good of Frank Miller's super noir storytelling and masterful understanding of comics, and you get actually good artwork(REALLY good artwork actually).
