Default UC Spider-Man #4 Spoilers

Mary Jane is in a mall parking lot after getting off an unidentified new mall job. While she's talking to her older age manager, a hoodlum in a car tries to kidnap her at gunpoint. Ultimate Shroud saves her and brutally takes out the hoods.

Shroud leaves with giving MJ much, if any, info on him/herself.

Later MJ recounts the incident to Peter and says she wasn't sure what gender Shroud is.

Meanwhile Johnny Storm settles into the Parker household and figures out living arrangements.

Later on Peter rushes to the Queensborough Bridge after he heard rumors that the hulk was busting it up again. It turned out to be nothing more than an illusion Mysterio set up using well-placed explosives and his illusory powers.

he detonated a bomb right behind Spider-Man and knocked him out, probably capturing him.

9.5/10.0

Great story. I think Shroud is great. I'm wondering who they turn out to be. I have a feeling its an established ultimate character.

Mysterio rocks.

Great job Bendis!

This is the Bendis I know and love on USM. Story was great and there was plenty of action. Finally addressed some of the issues we've all been wondering about and while not actually answering any of them, it's good to know they will be answered. I still can't stand LaFuente's art and it seems to be actually getting worse. Peter looks like a girl in the scene at the dinner table with the whole household and I just can't stand it. His Hulk looks like a gray version of the Blob, no muscle definition at all just a big lump. Overall the story was more than enough to carry the issue past the art for me.

8.0/10 This is probably the highest I'll rate the comic as long as LaFuente is drawing, he just isn't for me.

I got to say that LaFuente's art is getting better, Spider-man no longer looks like 12 and he seems to be getting a good at drawing the characters (even if hulk was a little bit too large) of course there will likely be about 20 screams of "Lafuente's art sucks and I hope UCSM dies because of that!!" after I post this but I think he is really getting good at this. Otherwise the pacing was really good, it didn't feel rushed and it advanced the plot well enough, I for one am quite happy to see that MJ is friends with Peter again and Mysterio's scene at the end was pretty awesome.

I agree with you. I thought his Hulk looked pretty cool. Maybe a little too huge, but not bad. I really liked this issue. I didn't really think Jessica was going to be the shroud but now I'm kind of thinking that may be the case (I was pulling for iceman to be honest). The whole girl disguising her voice to sound like a guy makes more sense than a guy disguising his voice to sound like a girl. But who knows. I liked it and I can't wait for next month!

I imagined Hulk looked so big because Mysterio was being a douchebag.

I am unsure about the shroud, I doubt it's kitty considering he/she made a big effort to save MJ, which makes me sightly suspect Jessica Drew, but the disappearing thing leaves me at a loss as to who it could be, which I guess was what bendis wanted.

Maybe it was a mutant or hero we all thought died in the Ultimatum Wave?

I hope Shroud isn't Jessica Drew/Ult. Spider-Woman. It seems too obvious.

If Shroud were Kitty, we'd have to see bullets going through her, as it stands, Shroud merely takes the damage as if he/she were bullet proof like 616-Luke Cage.

hulk looked fine. he was merely an illusion of Mysterio after all and heck how many different types of Bruce Banner's hulk have their been???

Bendis is really giving Mysterio a realistic and awesome villain personality ... I love it. This was the issue that really made me love the new series (finally!).

You can't believe Bendis' hype. He never lives up to it, so I wouldn't get yourself too excited just from the solicitations.

Who's to say that Mysterio can't make Hulk larger than normal?

There's been surprisingly little of that, as opposed to the masses of fan outrage when it was announced that he would be doing the art, so he's obviously doing something right.

Or the people who disliked it just gave up the series. Which would be "worse" in a way.

Good issue. MJ starts to have second thoughts about breaking with Peter and there seems to be awkard situation between her and Gwen. Like MJ said, it seems to late now and I wonder if Peter and MJ will ever have chance again. Now I really want to know the reason behind the break up.

More Shroud mysteries. He/She is a teenager? Hmm...but then again, I don't really have much confident in Bendis's secret reveals

Lafuente's art is still ok....His Spidey definitely improves but I still have problems with his human characters. I really enjoyed his style on USM Annual #3....Someone please tell him to tone down Peter's overgrown hair.

I liked it. Art-wise, only Pete's hair really bothers me. Time for a trim, dude. When he dons his costume running across the roof and we shift into Spidey-action, it was gold. Awesome action and comedy mixed in. Spidey's head going through a windshield, body still in the air, and telling the driver "You guys really got to get out of here." The whole issue was fun. The three kids telling off Flash Shroud's "No, you actually didn't." Spidey getting knocked out by ricocheting between explosions.

UCSM is a fine successor to USM. Yeah, the art has changed again, but the good stuff keeps coming. Still my #1 Ultimate-line book, as ever.
