Default 2099 Appreciation

:) Good idea Iron Maiden

Doom 2099 was my absolute favourite book in the line. By far. The Ellis stuff with World of Doom was comic brilliance.

the other original books:

I never read spidey 2099 but I think I should have done so. I liked X-Men 2099 so much and the first two issues of X-Nation, in part, thanx to Lim and Ramos. 2099 was an awesome line and it all fell apart when Cavalieri was fired.

Thanks for starting this. Truth to tell, I had dropped my comix hobby shortly after Bryne left the FF. I tried a bit of Englehart's FF and a few other titles but I just lost interest. One of my nephews showed me the Doom 2099 issues and I went back and got some a few back issues then kept up with the montly all the way through the end. The One Nation Under Doom storyline was an example of one of the better crossovers IMO.

Yeah any word on why Calavieri was fired? The line was doing well under him no?

I tired to get into X-Men 2099 but just found it so-so. Spidey seemed like a fun one but I was more into my X-Men phase at the time. A book about a villain seemed intriguing though which is why I picked up Doom and loved it.

Did any one read the 2099 anthology that wrapped up the line after the solo books had been canceled?

Yes, that was the one called 2099 World of Tomorrow. It's been a while since I read it though. I know the Phalanx were the big bad and Doug Ramsey/Warlock returned and he was the key to their defeat IIRC. Doom 2099 sacrificed himself in the end and died a hero. There was a very confusing follow up called Manifest Destiny and I do recall it was revealed that the FF that appeared in 2099 were clones created by the Watcher.

As for Joey Calavieri being fired, I believe a lot of it was tied to downsizing due to Marvel's shaky financial situation at that time... thanks a lot, Ron Perelman!!

It was not good at all. They flooded the whole world and the surviers had to escape to the Savage Land.

I seem to recall Manifest Destiny ignored it?

You are correct sir "Manifest Destiny" does ignore pretty much all of the events from the end of the 2099 line to the storylines in "2099:World of Tommorrow" it's been awhile since I read "Manifest Destiny" so I don't remember what they did leave in, but I know the identity of Goblin 2099 was thrown out the window within the first few pages.

I loved the 2099 line and I hope the Marvel doesn't drop the ball on trade paperbacks of Spider-Man 2099, which is helping to fill in my collection.

Has anyone been reading the new 2099 mini-series, it's been okay; but so far the best thing about it was the Spider-Man 2099 one shot. The series just isn't as good as I had hoped it would be.

You mean the TimeStorm ones? I kind of glanced through them but didn't understand what Doom's connection to all of it was. I was expecting an appearance by Doom 2099 instead.

I picked up FF #413 the other day because I found out Doom 2099 appeared in it. Decent read. Nice getting another dose of Doom.

I liked the crossover to Doom 2099 but the art was starting to go downhill at that point. But the appearance in FF showed the stark contrast between Doom of 2099 and the one that was appearing in the FF. Despite his bouts of amnesia in the early part of the series, Doom 2099 started to be a bit more rational and he had plans that actually worked.

I liked some of the supporting characters in the 2099 world, like Wire, Xandra, Sharp Blue, Morphine Summers and Fortune. Then you had the mercenary guilds like the Panther's Rage of Wakanda. Dang, I should pull out some of that stuff and read it again this fall.

I actually really enjoyed Ghost Rider 2099.

It weas a nice compliment to Kyle Holtz art style and one of the more under-rated and under-appreciated titles from the line.

Though I have to admit Doom 2099 was my favorite

Many intriguing characters, adeptly created and handled by Peter David and Rick Leonardi. It was a sad day when they walked off the series in response to Joey Cavalieri being fired.
