See, this is why I'm glad the marriage doesn't exist anymore. I truly loved the Black Cat and Spider-Man romance, as tumultuous and wacky as it was. Theirs was also awesome and worked on many levels. The evil that men do was about as close to a new Felicia/Peter intimate relationship as allowable, but couldn't go any further. I have faith in Joe Kelly's ability to find something fresh, yet familiar, with these two crazy kids.

Well the cynic in me tells me two things:

1. That we have to keep in mind that the Black Cat no longer knows Peter is Spider-Man thanks to the "psychic blindspot/mindwipe." Which means, it's likely--and has been hinted at in the promotion for this--that Felicia is back to loving the hero who wears the mask, but not the man under the mask. Meaning much of her development that occurred when she did find out Spider-Man was Peter has been jettisoned and regressed back to the Catwoman-type flirtation/seduction she had with Spidey when first introduced.

2. That the obvious suggestiveness of this story, especially with regards to the title and especially the second cover pretty much mean that rather that Spidey "getting lucky" with the Black Cat, this is really going to be nothing more than one big cocktease (although as someone pointed out to me, not with those teeth she has) just to make Spidey all flustered as distracted but ultimately unsatisfied. Parker Luck is the name of the game, after all.

Black Cat is a cool character and all but I can't really muster up any sort of excitement for her return on the title.

Perhaps it's because I'm still bitter about the Peter/MJ thing but any future relationship with other female characters is just going to feel weird to me until there's some closure between them. But I did like what Mark Millar did with her in Marvel Knights Spider-Man.

Hmm, I'm usually a cynic too. But Felicia, she really, really has matured as a woman and a sort-of hero. If she once again only loves the mask, it certainly wouldn't be entirely her fault. Think of it that way. Besides, Peter knows and cares for her enough that at some point, he can always unmask before her again. I seriously doubt Felicia will react the exact same way as the first time he unmasked for her.

But here's an idea--what if Felicia, knowing that she once remembered who Spider-Man really was but not having that knowledge anymore, DOESN'T want to know who he really is anymore? Because she believes that knowing who Spidey really is will no longer make him as exciting and mysterious as a potential lover. After all, thanks to the mindwipe, she now thinks they always did it with him keeping the mask on, and she obviously likes that kinky sort of thing. Thus, it's in keeping with the idea Marvel seems to be going with--that they're taking her back to being the amoral, seductive tease that is attracted to Spider-Man but not Peter Parker.

You're right, that would be a major backpedal in Felicia's evolution. But seeing how Spider-Man is so publicly hated, JJJ-hunted, and a murder suspect, this just might be what the Spider-Doctor ordered. An amoral seductive tease that's into Spider-Man? And should he get uncomfortable with that, like I said, he could just unmask "accidentally" and perhaps get back the Felicia who likes both.

That's just pure speculation though and based on nothing but two covers and a story title.
