[Disclaimer: This is not a personal attack. This is just an expression of our Democratic right to demand what we want of our service providers. Disposable income is a legitimate term for negotiations. Please, CBR Staff, respect that. Doing so does not, in any way, mean you endorse it.]
Operation Zero Tolerance: Dear Marvel, We members of Comic Book Resources Forums do not feel that anything about Greg Land makes up for the deplorable quality of his work on Uncanny X-Men. I can provide examples (in fact, I will; later), but even without copy-pasting what he has already copy-pasted, I think that you know what we’re talking about. Our problems include, but are in no way limited to: - The disgracefully sexual/pornographic overtones of his artwork. - His absolute inability to capture the essence of even the most classic characters. - Tracing. Let me say it again. Tra. Cing. TRACING. - The redundancy and absolute monotony of everything he and his lightbox produce. - PORN. I repeat: PORN. - All of his work feels hollow and is absent of any true passion. - William Blake is rolling in his grave. - Jack Kirby is rolling his grave. - My eyes are rolling in their sockets. Now, let’s provide evidence. Legitimate evidence. Quote:
![]() ![]() ![]() Alright, that’s enough. Anyone else who joins the thread can provide any other images that they know of. A quick search on Google Images will turn up a lot more, I’m sure. I mean, these are all the first things that pop up when you search “Greg Land.” No joke. I mean, Marvel, I’m not even an upcoming artist or anything and this upsets me. I draw stick figures, for chrissake, but I know low quality artwork when I see it. That all said, let it be known, this is not a personal attack on Mr. Greg Land. I have nothing against him. Hell, I don’t even care if the powers that be look the other way and keep him employed. But, what I do want out of this is for Greg Land to be taken off of Uncanny X-Men. Dodson’s work is wonderful. Land’s just isn’t up to par. It might be if he actually put some work into it, but… Whatever. Just get him off of Uncanny. Sincerely, CBR Members Against Land

I think another artist does deserve the chance to get the gig on Uncanny X-Men, in Land's place.
This is just... for lack of better terms... Lazy. Uninspired. There are pencilers who'd give their eyed-teeth to put out eye-popping visuals, that could meet deadlines, particularly when alternating with Land. They deserve a chance to have the gig, and as a fan, I know I would appreciate getting higher quality visuals for my dollar. It'd help the story immensely, as well.

Let whomever rant and feel better.
But really, not buying the issue, and making it clear why, are the only true ways to solve the issue.

I always thought the Red Queen looked a bit like Charisma Carpenter...

re-write it as without the snark and the homosexual community comment, you'll might get farther
Also didn't limit yourself to the net Take it to your LCS ( all of them if your more then one) see if the owners might consider ordering less UXM when Land is on the title( long shot but hey nothing venture, nothing gained) and don't email it find the adresses of Joe, Land, Fraction, Marvel's Office. Dan's print shop Stan Lee, Alex, and Avi's. if they see pages of people actually singed thier names. with copies of Land's work. they will get the picture.

Oh, I don't know if I care THAT much. I'll just stop buying it when Land's on art and hope others follow suit. This is just a chance for other people on CBR to express their distaste. Anyone outside of CBR can do it...outside of CBR.
But thank you for the advice. Seriously. I'll edit it up a bit.

Sorry to say this but marvel doesn't care, people have complained before and nothing happened. All they do is defend him.

The LITG forum does have a Land: Swipe File thread on it, dedicated to this sort of thing.

I don't see how Marvel can honestly let this pass on a flagship title to one of their largest franchises. There is no excuse for Land's Uncanny work, the sad thing is I'm sure Mr. Land has actual talent, I don't know why Marvel doesn't encourage him to put away the light box and go back to drawing for a living.
Bottom line, start drawing or GTFO. |
