Default Eternals #9 -- Final Issue?

Anyone know if "Eternals" is cancelled with #9? It sure read like a final issue (although not a particularly good one), and I don't see anything on the Marvel website about an "Eternals" #10 anytime soon.

Yeah, it's canceled. They stopped soliciting it, and someone asked Quesada a few weeks ago. He confirmed it.

In all honesty, that is terribly shitty. I figured they were just taking a month or two off, seeing how complex the art is... but... Jesus. It was actually a good book. Every month.

I think Quesada's brief, not to say dismissive, response highlights the problem: the Marvel Universe doesn't need the Eternals to protect earth from etc, etc - it already has the Avengers, the X-Men, the FF, and a kazillion other super-powered beings who do that all the time.

IOW, the MU doesn't need the Eternals. And heaven knows the Eternals don't need the MU.

So, like DC, Marvel is unable to tie in Kirby's cosmic creations into the big scheme of things. Maybe Marvel can have a Crisis event and send them off to an alternate universe where they can have their own stories without having to involve the rest of the 616 universe.

I am being facetious of course.

I think this Eternals series did an OKAY job incorporating them into the MU.

I do think that this concept possibly works better doing their own thing... but really the big problem is that it probably wouldn't sell well unless it got a big name artist behind it again.

In JMS for example did it, and he managed to get a descent artist to go along with him, it would have a shot. But without an a list creative team, it's kind of a fringe concept that probably can't do more than an occasional mini.
