Default CBR: J.G. Jones Apologizes For Unfinished Final Crisis Work

The superstar artist J.G. Jones tells CBR News he blames only himself for not
finishing the final issue of the epic, seven-part saga “Final Crisis,” written by Grant
Morrison. The series will be completed by Doug Mahnke.

It's DC's fault for awarding him an assignment that, based on past experience, he couldn't complete.

What a joke! Another sign that DC is heading towards the iceberg.

Very disappointed with them of late.

brutal
devastating

edit: at least in his short apology, jones sounds as disappointed as the rest of us. i just hope that some of the fans can tell the amount of time he spent on the previous issues and the artwork we've yet to see. plenty of fans don't quite catch on to how detailed and nuanced his work is, so i can definitely understand how it could take him as long as a cassiday or a quitely.

. . . and it's his fault for accepting an assignment that, based on past experience, he couldn't complete. Neither party is completely innocent; neither party is completely guilty.

At least those picking up the slack for Jones are capable of quality work.

We are getting some fine artists to come in and finish the project, but at this point, with FC so darn derailed... this is looking like a mess.

The eventual trade will be ugly too. I got burned with IC, and really should have learned my lesson then.

Jones' issues were stunningly good though. I'm sure he'll bounce back to something else.

Pathetic. DC editorial has been a real mess under Didio and things continue to get worse. This kind of stuff is driving me, a DC fan for 25 years, away from comics all together.

Wow...

As someone that has been late with plenty of written work (including scripts), I know how he feels. When you put in so much effort, only to fall behind that much in the end, it feels terrible. That said, it sounds like he took this one hard. Really hard, like a borderline depression.

I mean, you guys can all talk smack about DC editorial and crap, and some of it might be true. I don't care though; I'm much more concerned about how he's taking this. I don't agree that he as disappointed as us: our disappointment is but a FRACTION of how he's probably feeling right now.

And it sucks. I wish had the time and strength to finish the series, but now, I just hope he can recover from this and continue to work in this industry. And hopefully, DC won't let something like this happen again. Not just for the fans, but for the workers as well.

Anyone can blame everything on something, whether it's DC, it's editorial, Morrison, or Jones himself.

But Jones sounds broken up about this. Revising his future plans? That sounds like a broken artist. I think people need to criticize his actions, but forgive the man himself. He sounds like he's giving up in that email, and with talent like that, he should never even consider that option.

I forgive him. Others should too.

I don't blame him one bit. He has been capable in the past of producing monthly work, but the scope of a project like this just proved to be more than he could handle. This big event cross-overs do take up more time, due to research, re-designs, etc. It's a simliar situation to what Stve McNiven encountered with Civil War. He was also capable of doing monthly work, but the scope of the mini was bigger than he anticipated.
I also think DC editorial should have been a little more wiser as well with who they chose to handle the artistic chores after what had happened the last time with Infinte Crisis.

Yup, and Morrison's rewrites, editorial changes, Countdown, and DOTNG had nothing to do with it, either...
