According to IMDB, the ultimate source of disinformation, Paul Newman was used a visual basis for Hal Jordan. Are there any interviews with Gil Kane to back this up? I hope it's true, because it's not only all kinds of cool, but maybe someone will tell Alex Ross and he'll do some GLs that way in the future, 'cause I dig him doing Gregory Peck as Batman. It also shows just how utterly inappropriate Jack Black would have been.

Tom Spurgeon's Comics Reporter site has been down all morning, for whatever reasons, but the Google summary sounds like he addresses the Kane-Newman connection, as it notes that apparently they were next-door neighbors once upon a time.

Judge by yourself if there is some resemblance between Hal and Paul

I actually never made the connection. A Failure to Communicate, I guess. Nevertheless, great info, thanks. Newman was the king of cool, so it would be a great model for Hal Jordan character. Now who is Steve McQueen?

Steve McQueen would obviously be Green Arrow.
Paul Newman as Green Lantern. Man, that would have been epic. |
