Default "Deep End" of the ‘Pool: Way talks “Wolverine Origins”

"The Deep End" begins in this week's "Wolverine: Origins" #21, guest-starring the inimitable Deadpool, who's got Logan in his distorted sights. CBR spoke with writer Daniel Way about the arc and his future on the series.

I really, really like Way's ideas for this book. The actual writing falls a bit flat sometimes, mainly because I think his pacing is too slow and the art is a bit bland (at least IMO), but his outline for this series always sounds fantastic! I hope the payoff with Daken is as incredible as it sounds.

Pretty sure it won't be.

Way has this uncanny knack of making Origins SOUND awesome.

It's usually the complete opposite though.

Is it strange that I found the uncolored page of Dillon's art superior to all the finished offerings?

Yeah, he sells very well. I remember how excited he had me for the "Big, epic battle of Monsters!" between Ghost Rider and Hulk in Ghost Rider's WWH tie-in.

Boy did that end up being a piece of crap.

After reading his take on Deadpool I am now very worried about him doing a Deadpool ongoing.

Arrow "Deep End" of the ‘Pool: Way talks “Wolverine Origins”

True. He can talk a good game, but so rarely delivers. Perhaps if those five and six issue arcs were condenssed to two issues long it would be a better read.

My reaction also. I thought those uncloured pencils/inks looked great. Dillon would thrive if the colouring wasn't so *glossy*, I think more brown tones need to seep into it.

I agree, it's like he looked at the origin of Deadpool and totally ignored every Deadpool comic book ever since. I really hope that everything Fabian has done with Deadpool (and Cable!) isn't just tossed out so quickly...

Agreed, part of the problem with the artwork is definitely the coloring.

I'll pass on this. I'll also pass on the Deadpool ongoing. Maybe a Fabian written Deadpool is the only one I like. I should read his old ongoing.

You should. Joey Kelly's run is amazing.

Alot of these guy's art ends up with the same fate.

Reilly Brown's pencils are insane, but when they get color on em, they color over the little details that made it look so sharp to begin with.

Apparently, no, judging from other's responses. I've actually liked Dillon's artwork on Origins for the most part, but I haven't liked the coloring from the word go. I keep thinking back to Astonishing X-Men's coloring, and how it really complimented the artwork. I don't feel that with this book. I hope they get a new colorist as well to go with a new artist.

I wonder who the new artist will be...

Agreed. I really do like some of his ideas... but not always the execution of said ideas. It was even worse when Loeb introduced some of those ideas (I'm assuming Romulus and the Lupine thing were Way's ideas).

Unfortunately, it probably will be just ignored. Thats the impression I'm getting. It's a shame, I really like the Deadpool and Friends thing thats going on now.

I was thinkin about that awhile ago when Cable came back, I still think it sucks that Cable hasn't reached out to Wade or Domino in Messiah Complex. It seemed like the perfect crossover and story that could have gave Deadpool a sweet role in a major story. People say he'd take away from the seriousness, but I mean what? you can't have a funny guy to lighten the situation up with a few one liners? It's not like he'd have to take up all the dialouge on a panel, it's not like he'd be in the middle of a serious fight with Sinisters people and pull Gambits pants down, or be in a fight with Lady Deathstrike and squeeze her jubblies. Not in a serious fight anyway..

I've liked what Way has done so far on Origin mainly because it's quite nasty and unapologetic. Way writes Logan as a worst human being than thousand Frank Castle. The kind that pretty much sucker punch Captain America. lol and the blood flow like crazy like it's a MAX title. I'm unsure about Dillon yet. While he's great at face expressions and it compliment the more hardcore elements, it hasn't clicked like the work he did on Punisher. Some of you have mentioned the coloring and that might be part of it, yea. Or maybe a Wolverine book just needs an artitst with more kinetic energy, like more of the blockbuster action artist a la David Finch. As for Deadpool, I can't wait for his appearance, it seems like Way's humour fits perfectly well with the character.
