Assistance Please: Haven't read an X related title in a long time

I haven't bought an X-related book in over two years. (except I did buy and read essential dazzler, which doesn't really count)
But I may want to get back into them.
Any suggestions, and at what point should I jump on board for that particular book?
I was considering just getting X-Force #1 and seeing where that took me.

X-factor and New X-men(both post M-Day) are the books I would recommend, and also the latest ongoing crossover Messiah Complex.

I'm with darksaint124 on this one, especially concerning X-Factor. Thank God that Peter David wasn't involved in the OMD debacle...

You might want to wait until the current event finishes (unless you go and get back issues of it) as everything will be different then.

Astonishing X-men - is starting a new volume with a new writer - Warren Ellis, so this is a good bet. Not least because it will be self contained and you won't need to worry about continuity etc with other X-books. Did I mention it's by Ellis?

Uncanny will have a new status quo at #500 which makes an easy jumping on point - with a few filler/character centric stories in between the end of MC and that. This would get you general team stuff (traditional flagship), direction & quality are uncertain though. It is written by Brubaker but out of everything he's writting at the moment this would be the one considered 'average' (though the last issue was an up turn). Mike Choi on art.

X-men is becoming X-men: Legacy after MC - no longer a team book, so this should provide an easy jump on point too. Will focus mainly on one character (likely Xavier) but others will be involved (Magneto, Rogue & possibly Gambit to begin with). We know it will feature the past (likely in flash back format) as well as the present and it's reason for being will be heavily influenced by the outcome of MC. Mike Carey is writing and he's been well received by X-fans for his run on X-men to date, not least for his love of the characters and continuity.

X-Factor - critically this rocks. It's set around a small group of characters with a detective agency in the ghettos of what used to be mutant town. Very noir, acidic humour and all about the relationships and the psyche of the main character (who's loosing his identity in the dupes/clones he makes of himself), even knits in a bit of philosophy too. Also very self contained and isolated from the rest of the x-verse. You don't read this because it's an x-book, you read it because it's really good & stands on it's own 2 feet. Would recommend the trades, but you shouldn't need them to jump straight in.

X-Force - seems to be shaping up really well and will launch after MC. It's got Craig Kyle & Christopher Yost writing, coming off the back of a very successfull run on New X-men. They also did the X-men Evolution cartoon and created X-23. Drop dead gorgeous art by Crain too. This is set to be the black-ops X-men team that does the leathel measure jobs, the come under the direct control of Cyclops but he's hiding the team from the rest of the X-men. Unknowns:

> New X-men: about the younger generation of mutants, was exceptionally good, but Yost & Kyle appear to be leaving and it's not been solicited post MC. However there's rumours of something called "Young X-men", but we don't really know what it is yet.
> Excalibur: Is relaunching with a new writer (who had good feedback from the Wisdom mini) but I'd really wait to see how it turns out.
> Exiles: relaunching with a new cast under the direction of Claremont. His stuff hasn't been great for awhile so this is a wait and see (unless you enjoy his recent stuff).

It really depends on what you look for in a book and what you personally enjoy. Hope that gives you an idea of where you might like to start.
