Default Marvel news from Dublin City Comic Con (spoilers)

Some interesting info from ShamrockLad back from the Dublin City Comic. He says the original X-Men and Prof X are on the X-Men Legacy cover. He said it seems to be some sort of flashback series looking at different times in X-Men history.

Just back from the 2 day Dublin City Comic Con, and had a great time. One of the panels was a "Pint of Joe", hosted by CB Cebulski, on behalf of Joe Quesada. Here's some of the stuff he spilled (this is all from memory so if I got anything wrong, apologies in advance). No pics either, I'm just the lousiest reporter EVER!

Adjectiveless X-Men is to be cancelled. Mike Carey will start a new book called X-Men: Legacy which will feature rotating artists. The first artist will be John Romita Jr. CB showed a pencilled version and a fully coloured version of the cover to #1

Garth Ennis is writing a war series for Marvel (the name escapes me) with John Cassady doing covers. I think the concept is different series/one shots under one umbrella title. The first series is called Phantom Eagle. CB showed the pencilled version of the cover to #1, very sweet...

CB showed a number of different covers for upcoming issues. A cover to Uncanny X-Men shows Emma Forst and Cyclops standing inside the X-Mansion with a gaping hole in the wall. In the back ground we see Nightcrawler, Angel, Wolverine and Colossus all with their backs to us (Colossus and Wolverine with backpacks) as if they're leaving.

Avengers Fairy Tales!! #1 is a retelling of Peter Pan with Captain America as Peter Pan (the boy who never grew up/frozen in ice) and Wanda as Wendy. We saw the cover to #1 which looks breathtaking!

No Punisher Fairy Tales in the forseeable future . But they are looking at a Fantastic Four Fairy Tales volume 2.

Another NYX series, I think he said it's ongoing. Female writer, from outside comics, who pitched the series to Marvel. And they are aiming for a female artist/art team as well.

We saw a page from the upcoming Loners Annual. Female artists whose name I can't remember, but very reminiscent of Joshua Middleton (my vote for the NYX artist!

Secret Invasion looks like sometime in spring with the usual tie ins (ala House of M, Civil War and World War Hulk). 8 issue series.

I was also at the con, although did not attend this panel. I have some minor other tidbits to note:

-Mark Millar told me he and Bryan Hitch are now thinking 16 issues of FF instead of 12

-Hitch is now WAAAAAAY ahead on his pencilling with, I think he said SEVEN done. (Apparantly he drew 1 or 2 in like 6 weeks? I'm pretty sure that's what he said, and that's damn fast for Hitch.)

-Doctor Doom's appearance in it will pick up where he leaves off in his Mighty Avengers appearance. Millar was strangely hesitant in confirming this after I initially asked, "Doctor Doom's in it, right?"

-CB Cebulski mentioned a writer anthology for new writers in the vein of Marvel Comics Presents.

Also in attendence were Steve McNiven and Jim Lee, who did signings, and Paul Cornell who was unable to tell us anything at all about Excalibur. It was a great con, and there was much DC-slagging at the Marvel panel as well as the usual con jokes including Dazzler and Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk.

All in all, a great day. :D

It's not a flashback series. The O5 are on the cover simply in recognition of the X-Men's Legacy. ;)

Just one correction involving this News....

The so-called LONERS ANNUAL was really a page from the Loners' X-Mas Story that will be seen within the MARVEL HOLIDAY SPECIAL.....

Rofl "Loners Annual"

Yeah, we WISH it were an annual, since that would imply it was an ongoing.

There are few things in this world that excite me more then Millar's FF run... and now it looks like it'll ship (mostly) on time! :D YAY!

Hopefully Romita Jr. is rotated out rather quickly. Yeeeesh.

Talk about rehashing old glory. Why not get Byrne on the phone while we're looking at oldtimers trying to retrace their steps?

If there's one thing I hate more about Marvel or DC its when they cancel a series that doesn't need to be cancel and relaunching it with a new stupid title or to have another #1 issues start. And call me old fashion I guess but I like it better when there is just one artist on the book rather then 5 in 15 issues. I think this is just another stupid move Marvel has done again.

Considering I have not like X-men for a while I think I just about to drop it after reading this. I just really can't stand what Marvel has been doing to the X-universe the past few years.

Gah! I thought I read they planned to be on for a while? That sucks.

In that case I'm not too excited and they come off sounding cocky. "Everything since Kirby and Lee was a rehash... we're not doing that!" but then only being on the book for a year, year and half tops (if they stay on schedule).

That's a real shame, I was really excited about the FF getting some attention again.
