Reed is back! I was never sure about his round three submission, but I really like his efforts this time around!

Yeah, Jon, these pages are terrific! Two and four specially are winners. Looks like finally you're in your element!

Reed´s work was nice. I didn´t like the last page though. I think it wasn´t impacting enough.

In round 3 Reed’s submission was my least preferred. Those pages of round 4 were a real improvement. The storytelling is fine, visual is ok. I liked page 2 a lot. But I think still there’s room for improvement though. His alien child looks too old. Page four lacks impact. The bunch of legionaries in the center could use some more variation in their positions. Anyway, it’s a solid effort. Congrats, Jon. I give a 7 score.

Good work this round, Jon! I agree the last page could have more impact, but the robot and alien design definitely has me seeing your potential.
Even if you don't make it through this round (highly likely due to the fan base of Oliviera and Wilson), keep churning out those pages and it'll happen. |

Yeah,
I knew I should've had them coming at us. I was going to do a second version of page 4 that was less static, then decided to roll with what I had. I just wanted to incorporate the background. O.K., no more excuses. |

Great work Jon - That Giant Robot on Page Two is badass! And let's not forget, 4 pages - first one to post... not too shabby.

Jon's is cool, but I like Dan's a bit better storytelling wise. I do like Jon's last page better than Dan's though. Can't wait to see what the other two have in store!

Wow, Dan McDaid's pages are awesome - Anyone else think his style is perfectly suited for the Legion?
Jon Reed's pages are good, too, but I think his kid doesn't look like a kid at all, which is kind of distracting, IMHO.

Great job, Dan. Impressive visuals, very stylish. As Reed’s submission, page 2 is specially good. If I’m allowed some minor nitpicking, I would say that some polishing is needed here and there. Page 4 specially seems a bit rushed. For example, Karate Kid’s foot looks too big, even accounting the perspective. A little more of backgrounds would be nice, too. But to fully drawn and ink four pages in three days was very impressive. Congrats, man. I give it a 8.

For me. This contest was about reaching out to editors. With the lack of any editor being there with regards to the assignments you can/have to take things in many different directions (and subsequently get bit in the ass via a critique for things that would have been wiped away by a simple e-mail or conversation with an editor).
So in my effort to reach out to hiring editors I could have done one of two things. Made the alien look like a small child and keep true to the script (or at least what I THOUGHT the script was asking for.....again, no editor to confirm) which would limit my ability to show off my draftsmanship chops. OR I could make the alien a preteen/teenager and show some cool linework and beef up the anatomy (something my last round lacked). OK...THAT was my last excuse. |
