Default Agents of Atlas

So who else is reading this book?

Since I'm a fan of "lost years" heroes, I'm wondering how the heck are they going to retcon Marvel Boy back into existance? After all, he grew up, went crazy when the Uranian Eternals died, and tried to kill the FF. Then he died.

Also I didn't read the Howling Heroes book, so I have no clue as to where Gorilla Man is coming from.

I enjoyed it. It was probably the best book of the week. Gorilla-Man rocks! :D

I liked it too.

Seems like there'll be a female Atlantean appearing soon, too, so that's interesting.

He was a member of the Howling Commandos, a S.H.I.E.L.D. unit comprised entirely of monsters that was started by Dum-Dum Dugan and later transferred to Clay Quartermain. They fought supernatural threats like Groot and Merlin. That's all there is to know.

So I re-read the Agents of Atlas files here on CBR to get myself prepped for the book including the cool Jimmy Woo story there and I have to say, I quite enjoyed AoA.

This opening issue set things up in a cool way by use of both flashbacks and current happenings and it was interesting to see it being narrated by Gorilla-Man who comes off as a pretty likeable character (especially with M-11). I'm also most interested in Marvel Boy after having read up on the way he went out last time so he seemed to have undergone a good deal of change without having the Quantum bands to rely on.

Leonard Kirk's art here is very solid and almost seems like a mix of Stuart Immonen and Yanique Paquette's styles. So far I'm liking what I see and I dig the Human Robot's updated look and I'm anticipating seeing the whole team together under their new looks as well.

So far the book has me hooked based on it's past histories, current story and has me curious as to how Jeff Parker is going to tie in certain things and make other weirder concepts make sense.

If word of mouth continues to be as good as it is I may get this. I also reccomend you read some of Jeff Parker's work on the Marvel Adventures books. Top notch.

I loved it. :)

And I completely forgot about the CBR stuff about AoA. I'll have to read those...

(BTW - anyone else shudder a bit seeing that acronym used for a project that has NO special gimmicky holografx covers? ;) :p )

Only when I think of AoA: 10th Anniversary. I liked the original. ;)

I also thought it was great. Mystery, action and President Eisenhower getting his donkey kong on. Loved it.

Reading it, it felt like I was learning about an almost secret/untold pre historic Marvel universe, which is very interesting to me, while at the same time this story could go anywhere because these characters are basically blank slates.

The dragon that we only get a glimpse of fighting Marvel Boy, is that a new creation or something vintage?

It reminds me of Manda from the Toho movies of the 60's. Very cool.

Don't wait for the trade. Buy this book.

I wish they would have released a 'Marvel Milestone' with the original "What If" as well as the stories that introduced all these characters before it came out. Maybe we can get that in the TPB for the series. :)

Wow!

I am so glad I picked up this over New Excaliber. That was the book of the week for me as well. And it wasn't slowly paced like a lot of minis are these days but it wasn't "WAM BAM THANK YOU M'AM!" style either.

That would have been pretty cool although I guess that depends on the success of this book.
