Default Captain America: Reborn #4 *Spoilers*

Easily the best issue of this so far. The first few were a bit on the slow side, but starting with #3 things picked up considerably. Looks like the second half of the series will be a lot busier.

Anyhoo, Reed and Hank (with some aid from Vision's time-shifted message) do some science stuff and exposit more about how the device works (basically, Sharon and Steve are linked and pulling towards each other), and since they have some of Sharon's blood they can do something with it. Meanwhile, New Cap, Black Widow, and Clint raid a HAMMER installation to find out where Sharon is...

Latveria, where she's rather dismayed to learn that old Johann is actually alive. They strap her into the machine and switch 'er on, which pulls Steve out of his latest jaunt (the exploding drone), ironically just as he seemed to be deciding to try and change things. Midway through the time stream he's attacked by a Skull-like apparition, and his body appears in present-day Latveria. But it's the Red Skull in the driver's seat (Skullcap?).

----

I expected that the Skull would get the body he wanted, at least temporarily. My guess, that Steve's consciousness is still floating out there, and Reed and Hank will use their bit of Sharon's blood to draw it out, after they apprehend Skullcap and co.

Really like how Brubaker handles all of the big Marvel villains in the same room. Unlike DC, these guys aren't known for being overly cooperative, and the constant sniping is well-handled (such as Doom's condescension to Zola; well, he condescends to everyone).

Hitch did a good job drawing this, though I really think he might consider using fewer double-page layouts.

I think this series would read better as a trade or HC.

This is the best issue yet that sounds basically the same like all the others. Half the issue is slowly telling the slow story of how we are getting cap back and the other is time traveling stuff.

I dont know how many issues of this are left, not following at this point, but this story is REEEEAAALLLY one of those you just read the summary online because the story is NOT going to move until the last issue of the mini.

On another note, wasn't Clint captured by Norman?

In New Avengers, yes. Different story.

Did Red Skull really have to go through all this work just to get Steve's body?

It wasn't just to get the body; "killing" Cap was important to the panic/demoralization of Lukin's plan to install a fascist administration in America. They've just defeated that part of his scheme already; now the body part is all that's left.

Oh right, I forgot about that.
There was a recent month where she was captured in all series she was appearing in.

This has been upped to a 6 issue series instead of 5, right?

If so.......then why is "of 5" still on the cover, I wonder...

That decision was just made less than a month ago. I'm sure the cover designs had already been finished at that point.

I think James and Natasha will come busting into Latveria from a Hank Pym doorway and surprise the hell out of Victor. Then after the fight settles down, Reed Richards will put the SkullCap back in the box and force Steve inside, and Red Skull will be back in the robot again.

I'm just wondering if Steve is in the Robot right now, if Skull is in the Cap body?

At this point perhaps we have a Lukin Skull situation. Skull in the drivers set for the most part while Steve is trapped in his own mind watching what the Skull is doing. A fun issue but I await the huge throw down over the next two issues. I wonder what will be done with the Red Skull after this, because there is no way this is ending without Steve in command of himself.
