I was thinking that Dick, with all his charisma and respect from the DC hero universe could be a better Batman than Bruce.
Bruce had to start from scratch, he had no create the Batman mythos from the ground up and there are probably things in hindsight that he would have done differently. Dick, with the benefit of Bruce's experience and advice, could avoid these as well as galvanise the DC universe's heroes under his leadership, in the future, as well as be the Batman of Gotham. When Bruce returns and retires from the cowl, and assuming Dick still wants to take over as Batman, or is worthy, would benefit from Bruce being there, behind the scenes with his mind and experience as well as using his own sway and charisma to make Batman even more (and I'm oath to say this) "powerful" than he is right now. |

He definitely could be.
As you pointed out, he has more efficient training. Bruce had to learn everything independently and try and piece it together for crime fighting, Dick had the benefit of learning skills that were directly necessary for crimefighting and he began at a younger age. I'd say Dick's training has been more encompassing within the context of crimefighting. This isn't to say Dick is better but I don't think it is sufficient to say Bruce spent 12 years abroad training, Dick hasn't. Athletically, he should be the superior athlete and fighter, it's kind of ridiculous imo he isn't regularly holding his own against the likes of Shiva and such. He doesn't choose to be a loner. Batman has to appear fearsome, behind the scenes though, he can be completely lighthearted and a teamplayer. Dick gets huge points here.

No, and Dick knows that as well. He's not as obsessive as Bruce.

According to the issues I've read, he already is. Bruce just pounds on criminals, then leaves them for the GCPD. Dick gets evidence which can lead to convictions.

I think the difference in obsessiveness is often overplayed. Dick may not be as moody but he's just as committed as Bruce.

Logically he should be. I've seen fans says that Bruce teaches the Robins everything they know but not everything he knows, but that argument is ludicrous. If Batman is putting 13 years olds on the street than you know damn well that he's making sure that they're just as prepared as he is.
Now we can factor in that Bruce has all of 2-3 years crime fighting experience on Nightwing and the gap between them keeps shrinking. Really Dick Grayson's main problem has been Tim Drake. Tim's first few years on board had him playing the role of the computer guy, but once Oracle starting being brought into the Bat-family more she became the go to person for that. So then Tim suddenly became a master detective. Which is cool because like I said, Bruce would've taught him everything, but in order to make this more obvious Dick is now portrayed as if he couldn't figure out that two and two equals four without Alfred's help. All that is to say that, taken to the logical conclusion, Grayson could definitely be a better Batman than Bruce. |

No offense to Dick's character, but I'd rather see him back as Nightwing when Bruce comes back. Can he be a better Batman? Maybe, maybe not. Could he make a better Nightwing? I'd like to think so.

Some could even suggest the Bruce's obsession is also a weakness that Dick doesn't share. |

Bruce does that as well. Just because we don't see it all the time, doesn't mean that he doesn't gather evidence.

This is why I really want to see Dick lead the JLA as Batman. The modern Batman, while always a strategist and strong presence when in the JLA, never really led the team. Dick can marry his own charisma and leadership to the intellect and psychological presence of Batman to be the perfect leader of the JLA... which essentially makes you the leader of all the DC superheroes.

Two faults that Bruce has always shown to have been that he's not as natural a leader as he is a crime-fighter/detective/strategist, and that his obsessive nature sometimes making it hard for him to be able to socialize with people. Those flaws are things that Dick as Batman doesn't have, while still being as effective as a martial artist and as a detective as Bruce.
So yeah, I can definitely see Dick becoming a "better" Batman then Bruce. |

Well, what's the point of Batman?
Bruce created the Batman persona. He built it around being dark, mysterious, and frightening. Bruce is a master sleuth, strategist, what have you but he utilizes those skills to solve crimes. He could have done that without being Batman. He could have joined the GCPD. He created Batman to scare the crap out of criminals. I think Dick as Batman is awesome, but as it's been stated in the books, Dick is performing an established role. Dick is continuing the Batman persona because of what it represents. He could continue to sleuth, strategize, and intermingle with the other heroes as Nightwing or as himself. He chooses to be Batman because he knows Batman has more of an edge than Nightwing or Robin does. Most people pee themselves when they think of Batman. I don't think anyone has ever felt that way about Nightwing or Robin. Just, "Crap. It's what one of those costumed yahoos!" Do I think Dick could be a better Batman? Sure, but it would always feel superficial. Do I think Dick could be Batman for the rest of Batman's published life? That would be pretty cool, I think. |

Robin made sense at first but at this point, criminals, if they are afraid of Batman, should be afraid of Nightwing and Robin too. To answer the question, they are rarely shown to outright fear them but damn, they should.

Does it matter who's better. Its not about better or worse. Its about something different, and if different can be interesting. Which evidently it can.
