I'm a big Swampy fan, and was just wondering if it's imperative that I also read HELLBLAZER? I know Constantine figures into some of Swampy's stories, so it got me to thinking...
I've ordered issues #255-260 of HELLBLAZER, just to give it a taste. If I like it, and it's strongly suggested to read it, I'll start deliving into the trades. Any help is appreciated! ![]() |

First, I suggest that you start reading Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run.
If you wish to be more specific, try vols. 3-5 as John Constantine figures heavily in the story-lines in those volumes. Then, if memory serves me right, vol. 7 of Rick Veitch's Swamp Thing run has some John Constantine in that area (maybe vol. 8 as well). I do know that JC also appeared in the last two Swamp Thing (Vertigo) titles by Brian Vaughan and Andy Diggle, but don't know which issues he appeared in. Vertigo/DC has collected most of Diggles run, but none of Vaughan's run. JC also appeared in the first Books of Magic mini-series, The Trenchcoat Brigade mini-series. As far as Hellblazer goes, Vertigo/DC has collected all of Diggle/Carey/Azzarello/Ellis run, most of Delano and Ennis run, but none of Jenkins run (not yet anyway), and some of the one-issue stories that appeared off and on throughout the series. There's alot of tpbs. mostly covers 3/4 of the series. I wish you good luck if you're going that way. ![]() |

IIRC - the two books cross referenced each other early on in Hellblazer, it was about the birth/creation of Tefe'. Swamp Thing also returned in Mike Careys' run of Hellblazer for a couple of issues. |

Even though Swampy figures to almost zero in the Hellblazer series....I still think you'll get a kick out of our "hero" Mr Constantine. 255-260 is a good little story that is not too difficult to catch on and follow and get a sense of what John and his adventures are all about.

I honestly appreciate the replies. Thanks!
I'll give HELLBLAZER the run of #255-260 and see what I think of it. That sure is a lot of trades to wade through, though. I'll see how things pan out. And I've read Moore's Swampy. Fantastic stuff! Simply blew me away. |

Tefe Holland is closely related to John Constantine.
