Default Unsolicited Last Issues

DC has said that not every last issue will be solicited as a last issue. The Flash ends in January, for instance.

So, out of the February solicits, what books do you expect to end?

My picks:

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight
Batgirl
Catwoman (To be relaunched)
Nightwing

Superman
Supergirl

Aquaman (To be relaunched)
JLA
Legion of Super-Heroes (To be relaunched. Just to be contrary)
Outsiders (Titans East, anyone?)

I had read that although Dick Grayson will be taking over for Batman (presumably, for a short time), Nightwing would continue, so I don't think that title should be on your list. You think Supergirl is going to be cancelled so soon after it debuted?

I think Supergirl was a McGuffin series. Which ticks me off because I want Kara to grow under multiple creators.

Loeb said he won't "leave an unmade bed" with his Supergirl run and has said that he would be on the book, despite his Marvel exclusivity, until his story wraps up. No new creative team has been announced even though other titles (particularly DC's top sellers on par with SUPERGIRL) have discussed their creative teams post-February.

Didio said that this Supergirl was "the only one who should exist" and I have a nagging feeling that the follow-up to that line may be "the only Supergirl who should exist is a dead one".

I have to disagree here. DC said that in June there will be major new creative teams debuting each week. Then in July there is supposed to be a major new relaunch each week.
Jeph Loeb hasn't said how long his run will be. DC could just be holding that announcement until then. There may be a haitus after Loeb wraps up his run but I don't think we have seen the end of Supergirl. It makes no sense with the popularity of the book.

IIRC, according to that DC report that came out of Canada, Gotham Knights, not LotDK, and Nightwing are both ending in February.

I'm saying they wont kill Super girl. Fans wanted Kara back for years..be dumb to kill her when they just got her back.

And he comic making money.

so dont think they kill her so soon.

I'm aware of the GK cancellation. I expect LotDK to do too.

That way, they can go back to the two core Superman and two core Batman books with new Classified titles as a launch for each family.

I hope they cut back on the Batman books. I think there's too many. We could have Detective feature the supporting cast while Bruce shines in his own book.

I'm not sure if you can attribute the sucess of Supergirl to the writer, or the artist- I doubt there'd be a book at all if it weren't for these two. I just wish Jeph Loeb had a crystal ball, so He could've seen himself making an exclusive deal with Marvel, and deciding not to start a Supergirl book, if it wouldn't continue without him. or,if She was essential to the crisis, why he couldn't have told her story in the core super books. I'd just hate to see the title cancelled after a few issues, simply because of bad planning. I hate getting invested in a book with no real long term future. On a related note, i wonder how the idea to change "Hawkman" to "Hawkgirl" was launched?

Speculating but a way Dick Grayson can be both Batman and have his Nightwing book continue? Dick will be Batman during the 52 series. Since the books are leaping ahead. I'm guessing the majority of plots and subplots will wrap up in February. When the books return in March will find out its beeen a year since Bruce has put on the costume. Why/How he quit and who took over and why he came back will be covered at the end of Infinite Crisis and the 52 series. Over in Nightwing his stories will wrap up in Feb and Mar will show him returning to his Nightwing costume. That's just me speculating of course.

As for books being cancelled.

I'd heard 2 Batman books would go. At least that was the rumor. with the announcement of Gotham Knights and Central I wonder if those 2 would be it.

LOTDK seems like a possiblity of cancellation what with the rumored way the Confidential books are being setup (rotating teams, 1 side popular, 1 side new). I really don't care but I hope they keep it out of the core books.

There was of course the announcement of Superman getting cancelled and reverting Adventures back to its original title of Superman.

I for one would love to see them cut the core Bat and Superman books back to 2 each. (Action and Superman, Dectective and Batman). Some how though I don't think it would last. Superman and Batman are to DC what X-Men and Spider-Man are to Marvel. There the character that can sell multiple titles. Back when they did the Spider-Man relaunch they cut his books back to 2 cover books (with a rotating team book like LOTDK). Now they're back to 3 core books with multiple mini-series. Also the mutant number has been cut down recently but I don't see a cut in X-titles. They might get cut back but I figure anytime a crossover hits the Confidential titles would be pulled into the storyline.

The hero books getting cancelled. Well since there's a possiblity of death in IC I think the 2 I've heard come up the most are Flash and Wonder Woman so I'd guess they chose to announce the cancellation of both so fans would wonder if one or both might die. I'm guessing both series will return eventually.

JLA - It might get cancelled but it won't be long before relaunch.

JSA - With the possiblity of Earth 2 characters returning I could see this one getting a cancellation/relaunch. Especially if Kal-L is put back into their history.

I really don't read a whole lot outside of those books.

Hasn't Superman been running for decades now? Why would they cancel that?

The dead one is supposed to be the Linda Danvers one right?

The rumor was that they will cancel the Superman that debuted with the Post-Crisis Reboot and turn Adventures of Superman back into Superman which is the title it started as back in the day. So at least the older numbering will remain intact.

And that all makes room for Superman Confidential.

- There was talk a couple years ago of LOTDK ending with #200. Wonder if they'll go thru with it.

- Nightwing certainly sounds like a final issue solicit (I assume that's Devin Grayson's last issue too?)

- I'm hoping they go thru with that rumored plan to axe Superman and give that name back to Adventures of Superman (which was Superman until the 1st Crisis). In fact.......kinda seems appropriate that another Superman book is renamed with this 2nd Crisis...

- Another Aquaman relaunch? Ugh.

- Gotta give DC their props if they do in fact axe JLA.

I think you're right about all but the last two. I've been getting the feeling Supergirl was a "McGuffin", as you put it, too. After all, now that they're pulling back the curtain on the original Crisis, it'll be hard to pretend that the original Supergirl never existed, which makes the new one more of a continuity headache than she was in the first place. AND they've solicited something like "the most unexpected death of all" in the Feb issue of Supergirl.
I'm also on board with your theory--it was yours, right?--that JLA will become a newly-titled "Justice" book..Justice Union or Justice Battalion or something.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's no quick relaunch for Catwoman; it seems to have lost a lot of steam, and I think they'd be smart to give her a rest for a while.
In addition to the ones you listed, I expect Blood of the Demon to drop out of the lineup.

I would really, REALLY hate for Supergirl to be cancelled. But I think it will be.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the repercussions will be so widespread that over at Marvel, Black Panther will get cancelled. :D
