Default Similarities between BN & Eclipso: Darkness within

Does anyone remember the Eclipso event from 1992?

Earth's heroes are compromised through anger and those heroes with light based powers come to the rescue.

I can't help but notice these similarities in the two stories. I really like Blackest Night but it kinda takes away from the story when you've previously read a very similar story with almost the same characters.

I really enjoyed the Eclipso event, Bart Sears's art was amazing, not to mention it had characters like Valor(remember him?) and Lobo(even though he stayed in Vegas).

Anyone else notice the similarities?

Everything has already been done before in comics, it's all about the execution and so far BN has kicked all sorts of ass and delivered in what other events have lacked as of late.

I remember it and liked it, but it's really not the same. There were no zombies, no emotional spectrum, no GL focus, completely different writing style...it was just a straight "bad guy takes over heroes" story.

We've also seen "characters back from the dead to terrorize the heroes!" in Day of Judgment (who wrote THAT, I wonder...), the "Ghosts" annuals, and the conclusion of War of the Gods.

This actually reminds me much more of "Day of Judgement" than Eclipso.

In a weird case of coincidence, I was re-reading the Martian Manhunter Day of Judgement tie in, featuring the return of zombie JL Detroit just before reading the JLA Blackest Night tie in featuring the return of Vibe and and Steel.

Trivia time:

Johns famously told the anecdote in an old interview on newsarama about when he used to collect comics year ago.

Him and his brother bought tons of copies of ECLIPSO #1 just to get the Black GEM that came with the first issue.

They planned to sell them on ebay

^you might want to recheck that story since ebay didn't exist back then.

I think they sold them on or tried to when ebay came on the scene.

Correction

I don't really see the correlation either.
