Default Why does Batman hate Huntress? Is she really "unworthy"?

Why does Batman hate the Huntress so much? Is she really unworthy to be a vigilante in Batman's 'burg? If you believe she is unworthy, what does she need to change to become worthy?

As someone who read her appearances basically from NML and up, I don't know that I have enough knowledge to make that decision. However, for what it's worth, I think she does a fine job - she seems to take care of herself pretty well. I'd have her deal with her rage issues, though. Anger management would help her out, maybe even some Bat-training.

Not that Batman would train her. Every time you see him in a panel looking at her, he has a face like he wants to bitch slap her.

He doesn't "hate" her. He just treats her with the same disdain and disrespect he treats pretty much everyone else in a costume, but particularly those who dare operate in Gotham City.

Batman gave her a shot. He got her a spot in the JLA precisely because he wanted her to learn to be a better hero. Then she threw it all away by trying to kill a villain.

I am answering the question with the 'old' (read: pre BOP) Huntress in mind.

There are two reasons, in my view why Batman doesn't like Huntress. The first one is that she back talks him and outright tells him that she does not agree with him or his descisions and as a result Batman punishes her by not allowing her inside his group. I don't think that Huntress defies Batman due to any desire to be willfully disobedient. I just think that she can't stomach his arrogance or rudeness and can't bring herself to obey him. She respects herself too much too put up with someone's nonsense.

The second reason, and this is more from observation than anything else. For all the blathering about Huntress (Helena Bertinelli) being Batman's daughter. I have never seen any sort of father and daughter relationship between them. More often than not, Batman and Huntress squabble like a couple. Or a man and a woman who can't get along yet have the hots for each other. Huntress seems to have rather thinly disguised crush on Batman. I think the attraction is not exactly one sided. I think that Batman is attracted to her as well. But I think he pushes her away becauase 1. she annoys him and 2. he doesn't want to mix business and pleasure.

That being said, I do believe that there is a grudging respect between both of them. If Batman wanted to get rid of Huntress or stop her from being a vigilante. He could find a way to make her stop. But he probably recognizes her skills and the good that she does. I think that he also likes the fact that she is one of the few people who will stand up to him and tell him off.

I don't know, if you're saying there's a sort of sexual attraction between them, I don't think I could agree with there being any evidence of that.

She does have a lot of rage/anger issues. I think if they dealt with that, she'd be a stronger character.

He showed great respect for her in an old Birds of Prey arc that Gail Simone wrote.

He respects her.

I think that's a big part of it. I think Batman also somewhat resents that there's a capable crimefighter in Gotham that doesn't do things his way.

There's nothing attractive about huntress at all, so there's no way Batman could have any sort of attraction to her.

Exactly. Her flatheeled boots are utilitarian nonsense and inspire no reaction except passing disgust.

She HAD rage/anger issues and they were dealt with in the pages of BOP. She's going to always be hot-headed (and she should be), big difference which some writers now don't seem to be able to distinguish.

I don't get why anyone would think Batman HATES Huntress. That seems like a silly question. He's grown and shown a lot of respect for the character as GeneralGrevious mentioned. It's just not a lot of writers spend their time writing that aspect of the relationship into pages of comics.

Mostly I think when Batman sees Huntress he sees a bit of himself and so he projects onto her as oppose to given her her due. They are so much a like so anytime he's chastising her I want to say "kettle, pot, black".

And yes Huntress is "WORTHY" to be a vigilante in Gotham. See her heroics in NML, FC, and other places.

This is the correct answer
