Don't look up the Richmond CA incident then. A friend of mine is a cop in CA, he told me the case is so bad they are trying to change the CA constitution to prosecute the bystanders as well as the perpetrators. And honestly, they should.

Sorry. I haven't been on the boards that long.
So tell me, does this kind of sh*t only happen in the US? The thing that is really disturbing is the number of really sick things that the press never sees or get wind of because they are too disturbing. I'm really starting to think it is all just us.

Nah, sadly horrible things happen the world over. We just usually hear of the one close to home.

It happens more frequently in the US. Than other first world countries. Even when you factor in population size. But it happens everywhere.

Mayne when you read about it more often as happening, some peoples treshold for doing it gets lowered or something.

Not to say our country is great or even good for fear of argument, it does stand to reason that in our country it seems more criminal and sad because in America such things are criminal and sad. Some other countries may not have the same rights for children and women and thus it is a non-story.

I can probably find something sick and horrible that happened there in the last 12 months. (If you name Antarctica I may have to resort to skuas eating baby penguins but other than that, I can probably find something horrible that humans have done everywhere else in the world.)

That is pretty true. And it's just horrid to think that monsters like this are willing to murder CHILDREN just to avoid going to jail.

A very small amount of what people are willing to do ever hits the media. I don’t know whether to be grateful for that or not. However the more media exposure a case gets the more pressure there is from the public to do something about it. A lot of stuff that gets swept under the carpet are cases that are completely horrific, but they know the chances of conviction are low so they keep it quiet. I’ve worked with over 400 cases of child abuse and neglect in the shelter. I’ve seen one conviction. And even in that case, she was out in 30 days.

yeah, most gang violence is sick and mostly involves children, even the ones who do the killing.

plus, in a historical view, it's nothing new, the Italian Mafia has been doing this sort of thing for decades.

Look up stories about gangs in Mexico or in Central America sometime. There's some truly horrifying shit there.

Unfortunately, the mentality isn't much different in some communities right here in the US. Gangs terrorize the communities with near impunity.
