Look what i found while looking for black characters in DC!!!
![]() AMAZING-MAN!!! He is a black character, well let me just copy paste for the article... "Although a 1980s creation of writer Roy Thomas, the Amazing-Man published by DC Comics was placed in the 1940s and made a contemporary of various Golden Age superheroes." JUST LIKE BLUE MARVEL!!! ANNNNDD "In the 1950s, his secret identity was revealed to the general public by J. Edgar Hoover. This act endangered the lives of Everett's wife and family. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, the murder of his nephew alongside two other civil rights activists spurred his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement of the time. He led marches against segregation across the United States of America, and also helped to quell riots in Detroit. Everett was also responsible for the capture of Martin Luther King's murderer James Earl Ray. In the DC Comics Universe, he is considered the third most important advocate for African American civil rights, behind acclaimed activists Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.[7]" JUST LIKE BLUE MARVEEEEELLL!! Well not just all but certain bits. This character certainly didn't puss out like the Marvel version. My god, man........ Marvel is now boosting minorities from DC. How low can you go.

And?
I knew about Amazing Man but his problem was that he never really got a big push from DC. As an aside, THAT Amazing Man is long dead and his replacement got ganked in Starman over a decade ago. Has there been a new Amazing Man as yet? As for marvel stealing DC minority heroes? You're kidding right? It's not just marvel characters like Robbie Robertson or Black Panther that puts Marvel over the top. Another problem with Amazing Man is his low power-level...He's closer to a marvel average midtier character than the JLA/JSA upper level character. Frankly, Firestorm could do everything he could do AND better. It's the simple fact that Marvel's artist would show black faces in the background. THIS, was just as important to me as the heroes since reading the DC comics of the time, you would figure there's not a single black person living in either Metropolis or Gotham.... |

More to the point, he's got the history wrong. Amazing Man is a re-working of a Centaur character, the one currently running around in Iron Fist as Prince of Orphans.
Although I wonder why he's underlined parts that have absolutely nothing to do with Blue Marvel. BM was never outed by J. Edgar Hoover, his mask fell off in a fight. And he was a terrible advocate for civil rights. Whereas Amazing Man made a stand for civil rights, BM went and hid his head in the sand. Literally the exact opposite of the character. Really, other than they're both super powered black guys with capes, the similarities stop pretty much there. And All, he has two grandsons who have taken the name, one of them just recently in JSA.

"The character was created by Roy Thomas as a tribute to Bill Everett's Amazing-Man," DC one has nothing to do with the Centaur comics one story-wise. Quote:
"Well not just all but certain bits. This character certainly didn't puss out like the Marvel version. " You dont need to take everything exactly literal, you know. Both characters had their identities revealed at a bad time for black folks. That's the point, NOT who did the revealing. You are saying the same things i said in my post. Quote:
Black characters placed in earlier time lines that have problems because of identities.....you know what? You dont see it, ok.

Uhh, you realize that Amazing Man being outted just refers to everyone knowing his real name, right? Everyone knew he was African American from the beginning.
...this has got to be the dumbest thread I've seen this month, btw. So congrats on that. |

So what?
The day of comics writers being imaginative and literate are long-gone - the current generation of writers grew up reading comics and watching movies, so that's where they're going to get their ideas. Overlaps and recycling are inevitable. There's nothing new anymore, and we should just let writers get on with the tedious business of writing comics until they can swing a gig writing for television or movies. Or let them get on with writing comics because their tv and movie work has dried up. Either or. |

I grew up playing with rocks. All the comics I write are about molecules and ponies.

Thanks for saying this, so I didn't have too.

I'd also add that Amazing Man's involvement in the Civil Rights movement is a fairly recent recon/reveal. Within the last two years. It was a one panel reveal used to introduce his successor, the current Amazing Man. It was very much a 'blink and you miss it' sorta thing.
So yeah, you really think that Kevin G saw that single panel and said 'I gotta copy that!'? |

Hmmm... I wouldn't really call BM a rip off. In a lot of ways, they were actually the opposite of each other.
One became a prominent Civil rights leader, while the other basically did the exact opposite and went into hiding. |
