Default Have there been any serious attempts to analyse X Men from an academic perspective?

This was something I was wondering about, has anyone ever studied the X Men or written University papers on them?

Any links would be appreciated.

Thanks!

EDIT: I added a poll because polls are fun! it has nothing to do with the topic.

Well, there was the X-Men and Philosophy book, which is kind of half-assed since they take a lot from the films.

And then there is this, which looks to be less from an academic than literary perspective (I have not read it yet):

But I know that in recent years comic books have become a resource of popular culture, literature, and history that is being studied more in academia. In our history department last year, two senior thesis dealt with comic books.

If there are academic essays on the X-Men, whoever wrote them belongs in adjunct, composition teaching, hell.

So negative. See my current facebook status; I'm currently in composition hell right now. Can't wait until the semester ends!

I do remember a cfp a few years ago when I was a MA student about depictions of women through the lens of gender, sexuality, and race in comic books. What happened to it, I don't know, but it looked like a serious study.

Two students. Just wait until I get my batch tomorrow from my Tragedy and Comedy kids, who are writing on Phaedra, Salome, Way of the World, and Playboy of the Western World. I'm scared.

Do you have to be a professor to be an academic? Surely just approaching the subject using a relevant critical perspective is enough?

I'd like to see a Lacanian interpretation of Polaris

She called it "rock, paper, shoot" and referred to Simone and Grafunkel. D@N isn't off base.

You have to have a paying job in academia (not as a departmental secretary) where you are held to scholarly standards. Uppity undergraduates doing "an honor's thesis" don't count. It goes without saying that you need degreed credentials.
