1st I'm not sure where this belongs, so if it's in the wrong place, will a mod please move it.
Is there a published story that happens between 'Return of the Jedi' and 'Dark Empire' ? If so, what it is called ? and is it worth picking up ?

However there are events that occur between ROTJ & DE, and I'm wondering if they are published somewhere.

There are multiple stories, but most notably, the Zahn trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command) take place in between.
This can also help you pinpoint what you're looking for: Star Wars ComicsTimeline |

Other than the Thrawn trilogy, are there any other SW EU books you can recommend !?

You've got 4-5 years of Star Wars time between ROTJ and DE, so there's not a lot.
There aren't many novels at all in that period. You've got the X-WING paperback series (which is very good & I would very much recommend) & the TRUCE AT BAKURA and COURTSHIP OF PRINCESS LEIA novels (which were not very good). The only Dark Horse comics that I can recall taking place in that ROTJ/DE period are the X-Wing comics (yes, related to the novels), which I also recommend as highly as the novels. And the last 30 issues or so of Marvel's comic series back in the early/mid 1980s took place after ROTJ - I wouldn't say they're good, but they're certainly interesting and a "historical curiosity."

Lots of them. Anything done by Timothy Zahn, Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston, for starters. Kevin J. Anderson's novels weren't bad, but they aren't top-tier either. The "series" books ("New Jedi Order," "Legacy of the Force" and "Fate of the Jedi") vary greatly in quality. I quit NJO and never started LotF, but I am enjoying FotJ. Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor was a lot of fun if you skip the last 10 pages. Skip Deathtroopers. There's a whole thread on Star Wars novels in the Books forum. You should check that out. On the comics side, Legacy (set about 140 years after the OT) rocks. Dark Times (set between the OT and PT) is also very good. But my favorite is the soon-to-be-ended Knights of the Old Republic. That's set around 3400 years before the OT. I haven't read any issues of the Clone Wars ongoing comic yet.

I recommend you skip right to the NJO and Legacy of the Force books. Unless you're not into the whole Jedi thing, then you should hit up the X-Wing books. |
