Default Do you think Apocalypse should go cosmic?

Would Apocalypse work as a cosmic character?

I think he'd make a great cosmic villain for a time. Here's why:

-He's one of the most powerful mutants on Earth.
-He has Celestial tech that's some of the best in the universe.
-He has a connection to not only Celestials but the Eternals and Inhumans.
-He has an army of powerful mutant Dark Riders.
-He has his own versions of Heralds in the Four Horsemen.
-He's also got his own flying Sphinx fortress, which is perhaps the coolest home base since a floating Celestial head.

Apocalypse would make a great foil for the Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, The Shi'ar Imperial Guard and the Inhumans.

Throw in encounters with Surfer, Galactus and Thanos, and Apocalypse may be able to regain some of lost badassery that's he's been lacking in the X-verse.

Any thoughts?

I'd rather he just go away.

He's hardly around, yet you want him to go away?

I reckon him going cosmic is what's needed to elevate him as a big bad and cement his A-list status. IMO, it would make him cool again.

The only decent showing he's had in years was in Messiah War when he kicked the crap out of Stryfe. Only thing wrong with that was it was a future version of Apocalypse and not the current version.

Yes.

He's one of the villains I really liked at one time and want to keep liking, but he's a squandered resource. During the Ages of Apocalypse, I got a little excited when he had Horsemen that spanned the 'verse (Deathbird, Enrique de Rojo, and--to an extent, Ahab). We saw a little bit of this potential during Age of Apocalypse when his inner-sanctum was breached and you could see his attention was off-planet.

Although I prefer him primarily as an X-Villain, he's a guy who should be taking his schemes into the paths of the Fantastic Four and the Mighty Avengers.

I'd like to see him take his credo of "Survival Of The Fittest" to other planets, kind of like a homage to his Celestial "masters", who judge planets on whether they are worthy enough to survive.

Apocalypse could send his Dark Riders out to find world's worthy of the "test", then send his Horsemen out to put the planet's populace through the cycles.

First up is Pestilence, who ravages the population with disease.

Second comes Famine, who eliminates the populations food supplies.

Third comes War, who engages the armies/defenders in battle to shatter the planets defence systems.

Death comes last, as the Horsemen tracks down and kills any survivors of the first three Horsemen.

Anyone left over, who manages to survive all 4 Horsemen, is deemed "worthy" and is brought in to become a member of the Apocalypse's Dark Riders.

If a Horseman is killed, there is a series of "try-outs" consisting of fights to the death among the strongest of the Dark Riders, and the winner becomes the new Horseman.

An encounter with any of those three or any former galactus herald would be the last encounter that apocalypse ever had.

And he did go cosmic. The celestials probablly have him in a fish bowl somewhere after they stopped him from killing himself and took him with them to where ever it is they go.

He wouldn't have to do battle with any of them, I was thinking more along the lines of any meeting between them would be cool to see. Especially with Thanos. I think it would be an interesting conversation.

With the Celestial's backing him, Apocalypse would definetly become a power player on the cosmic scene.

Apocalypse wants to rule everyone because be believes he's the most powerful. If he was let loose in space and somehow started to gain control of planets or star systems he would eventually run into the shiar or the kree who even as weakened as they are from the war should have no trouble dealing with him. Then if galactus is in the neighborhood and needs a snack he'd be arrogant enough to fight back and galactus and his heralds would laugh at him, destroy him and go on about their business.

The top tier guys from earth are far out classed by the top tier cosmic guys. Unless he had full backing from the celestials there is no reason to think that he would stand a chance against the fleets of the shiar and kree or galactus and his heralds. And there is no reason for the celestials to send their pet out to conquer when one of them could just go do it without breaking a sweat.

Personally, I want to see him unite mutantkind (and the earths heroes) together to take on the celestials. It'd be nice if his survival of the fittest mantra actually had a higher purpose.

If Apocalypse went cosmic and took the A off his belt you pretty much have a Darkseid clone. I haven't read a DC comic since Bane broke Batman's back and I know that....

It isn't just Apocalypse's ill-defined power set that make him a threat, though--it's the masses of loons who take his side and become his thrall.

I think writers with a firm grasp on Marvel's cosmic material, like DnA, could make him a viable force out there in space. And if a small band of X-Men can make-or-break cosmic empires, reality-encompassing crystals, and Phalanx infestations--this guy should be able to hang.

But, to clarify my earlier statement, I do want to see him go cosmic, but I'd want the focus on his business on Earth and not the Kree.

I'd settle for him becoming a credible threat to the X-Men again. He has been a joke for years, which is a shame because he was a very good villain in the past.

I feel like Craig Kyle and Chris Yost are setting this up, based on his role in Messiah War. And this is fine with me.

i think this would be perfect actually. the egyptian bits of his history start making sense in the cosmic realm, and the guy really doesn't make much sense as an x-men villain anymore.
survival of the fittest isn't really anything the mutants need another arc or crossover about. ever.

Hmmm... Apocalypse going cosmic?? Maybe he should pull a Sublime (ala Here Comes Tomorrow) and somehow take control of the Phoenix Force and use it to burn away planets he deems unfit or unworthy??
