Default Secret Warriors #10 & the Grasscutter Sword *Spoilers*

Now, I’ve been enjoying Hickman’s Secret Warriors for the most part, and I don’t consider myself to be infallible when it comes to Marvel continuity, but it seems they made a major blunder in issue #10 as it relates to the Grasscutter Sword . . .

Now these panels imply that Mikaboshi hired a mystical blacksmith to forge the Grasscutter for himself prior to the events of the Ares mini-series.

But to the best of my knowledge, the Grasscutter sword is the legendary Kusanagi-No-Tsurguri, once wielded by the storm god Susanoo in ancient times (which is referenced in the Marvel Mythology Encyclopedia). In the Marvel Universe, it was later involved in some storylines on Earth involving the Hand. Even in Oeming’s “Thor: Blood Oath” (which set-up the events of the Ares mini-series by introducing Mikaboshi and his motivations), it showed that Mikaboshi was not in possession of Grasscutter at the time and was trying to steal it from other Japanese gods.

So is this just a case of Hickman’s not knowing about the Grasscutter Sword’s pre-Ares history?

Question

So. In this version grasscutter is the perfect blade and godkiller the imperfect one.

I see they've acknowledged there that Ares' kid grew up in the course of the Ares mini. Have they explained how he was deaged, perchance?

I thought this was the issue that was supposed to make this fit..... and it looks like it's going the other way.

there's a simple "no-prize" solution to that. mikaboshi somehow loses the grasscutter sword shortly after having it made and then only recently recovers it.

I don't know . . . I thought of that at first, but that would lead to the result that Zeus and Mikaboshi were planning a war against each other's pantheons for millennia. Oeming's Ares limited series established that Mikaboshi didn't decide to attack the Greek gods until their allies in the Norse pantheon had died (during Avengers Disassembled), and the Greek gods had no idea who they were at first.

I’m of the mind that the original timeline of events was on shaky ground (with Phobos’ rapid aging while Ares was on Earth and whatnot), but that subsequent stories are just compounding the original problem.

Or that mortals had the blades to prevent the gods of both pantheons from messing with their affairs- this explaining why those gods fell from favor and are not generally worshiped today.

Or maybe Mikaboshi's gardener stole the blade to cut grass.
