Default JSA 80 Page Giant Question

So, is Mr. Terrific alive or dead?

Does this take place before or after his untimely demise?

'Cause I see King Chimera is on the team, but Michael Holt is alive and kicking, do they revive him in the next ish of JSA proper or is this an in-between story?

As I recall, that death didn't take.

I thought in the last issue they were still working on resurrecting him?

Either way, it seems to be a bit early to be up and at 'em so soon after being so dead.

Still hacking out the continity for this issue, but probalby happens before this present JSA arc starts. King Chimera is either a "flash forward" or artistic error. I'm going with error. This issue also takes place during the first Magog arc from his own comic (notice no Magog or Jay here).

The JSA 80 Page Giant seemed an awful lot like inventory stories cobbled together with a framing device, hence the art errors and sometimes confusing dialogue.

Had absolutely the same thought.

One of these days, I'll learn to avoid DC annuals, as most of them seem like this.

Yea, this was a waste of $6 bucks. Dare I say it...I'd of been better off buying 2 Marvel books. Yeah, I thought it was THAT bad.

Was anybody disappointed when the Amazing Man asked "Ted? Michael?" and it wasn't a reference/flashback to Amazing Man II's Extreme Justice days?

(OK, yes it's Extreme Justice, and the wrong Amazing Man. But still ...)

Oh it wasn't that bad. I liked the explanation of Power Girl's costume. And the stuff with Damage was great.

I really, REALLY liked the Damage story. Based on that and Top Ten, I'd say Cannon deserves an ongoing, if he wants it.

I also liked the Power Girl/Icicle story by Jan Van Meter. Second strongest of the book.

And I thought the framing sequence was actually pretty good too.

The rest of the stories ranged from passable (Mr. America) to awful (Amazing Man).

Maybe two of the stories were decent - the Amazing Man one was the worst of the bunch though. He goes from telling people they need to try and take personal responsibility in one panel to saying "what's the point?" in the very next one. It barely made any sense.

The Power Girl costume explanation was already done better in JSA Classified, not much of a selling point.

I thought it was good that somebody remembered Steel's petrified family, I don't think they've been mentioned once since their introduction 2+ years ago.

Robinson's Mr. America story...ugh. It read like he wrote it in 10 minutes. The only cool thing was Maxine trying to remember how the story went and bringing up those golden age villains like the Gambler and Sportsmaster (lol). And the old-time cars. Like the old time cars.

Ordway's story wasn't bad, he should be drawing these golden age characters all the time, he's perfect for them. I don't know why DC hasn't put him to better use as the main artist on a book with a nostalgia tinge, he could easily find a niche the way Steve Epting did with Captain America.

The Damage story was pretty good. I have to wonder if his Blackest Night death is going to be quickly undone.

Anyway, overall this book was only worth the money for hardcore JSA completionists, or people who will pay $6 for a story featuring the original Huntress.

Agreed.

Will they ever get rid of that silly 10 character rule...?

This was terribly dissapointing, it cost waaaay more than it was worth. Most of the stories were awful and the art was so poor. That Steel story was by far the worst; the art and the tale. Did anyone elso notice he had two legs in the flashback?? And thats not the pose his family died in, and whats with the talking statues thing?? I'm hoping that all of that was becuase of the spell and it wasnt real.
And what was the Amazing Man story about?? He kept changing his mind, sometimes in the same speech bubble!
The Mr. America/Cyclone story was ok, though badly dialogued.
The Damage one was ok too, interesting art.
I thought the Cyclon/ PG/Wildcat one was the best though, the writnig was so great, really great characterisation and the banter was so natural. I hope to see more of Van Meter on a JSA title soon. Merinos art was prety great for this too.
The inbetween stuff, ugh, not great. I really dislike the art. And how long has Maxines monkey been able to fly?!

All in all, lots of tiny foolish mistakes and some big ones. Some very bad art and poorly writen and thought out stories. Very dissapointing.

I'd imagine so... he's in that JSA All-Stars preview in the back of every DC book this month, so unless that occurs prior to Blackest Night (and since the youngsters were fighting alongside the old-timers in BN #4, it probably doesn't), odds are he makes it through just fine.
