One issue from the climax of Sean McKeever's enjoyable miniseries focussing on Rikki Barnes, as the main villain is revealed. I had to check up on this character, as I'd never heard of him before, but looking over his Wiki entry the first few issues contain quite a few clues about who he is. If I'd been familiar with past Secret Empire stories, I might have caught it - anyway, well-played. I liked the revelation that the Daniels kid isn't even in on the conspiracy, and is just somebody who wanted to run for student body president.
The SE capturing Rikki and revealing her identity to the students surprised me; of course, she doesn't really have much of a life there, so it's not as bad as it would have been for Spider-Man or whoever. I wonder whether they'll try to put that back in the bag next issue. The Young Avengers (by which I imagine they mean "Patriot and Hawkeye") guesting should be fun.

I quite enjoyed this issue, yet again. Good, old school comics. Nothing ground-breaking, earth-shattering or internet-tearing, just a fun story that helps explore the character.
I thought the reveal of Professor Power was pretty obvious (even if I did originally think Dr. Powers might be James Power, Power Pack's father), but obviously obscure enough that if you have never read a comic with him, you won't be able to figure it out. Here's a good profile to learn more about him. That was something I really liked to... completely unexpected. |
