Default Batman: Streets of Gotham #6 Discussion Thread (with Preview)

http://www.dccomics.com/media/excerpts/13371_x.pdf

Out today!

Plus Manhunter preview!

Yost Batman sounds more like Bruce than Dick with regards to his opinions of Huntress. There does seem to be a disconnect between the way Tony Daniel writes the Batman (Dick)/Huntress dynamic (more favorable towards Helena) and the way Yost plans to write it. Don't the Bat books have the same editors?

11 pages. great.

Black mask sure gets around.

I take it the priest did not really hear god. But some sort of invisable man who is actually standing besides him. A new villain?

I have to admit even to myself that the "kill man-bat" from Huntress (twice now in three pages) going into the second issue is too much and redundant. Yost is a better writer than this and he's handled complexities far greater than this. Not what I expected from him going into the second part but I'm reserving any more opinions until after I've read the entire issue.

Oh, FFS. Why is such a great backup in such a ... mostly-lovely-to-look-at-aside-from-Huntress'-costume book?

Oh, jeebus, what the ****? You did not just take Helena out of her beautiful redesign and put her back in this hideous bathing suit when she's been shot in the stomach before and then call her a harlot. What the hell?

God....how much longer we have to go through with the "I must kill Man-Bat!!!" and "Helena is dangerous!!!" thingy?

The main story looks really bad, I'm glad I decided to wait until Dini gets back onboard (His ridiculous Firefly bit notwithstanding).

The Manhunter back-up looks good as usual.......I loved issues 1-30 of Manhunter, but couldn't get into issues 31-38, primarily due to the artist for those issues. It could've been the storyline(s), as well, but the artwork turned me off so much that I couldn't tell.

These back-ups in SOG, though, as short as they are, seem to appeal to me almost as much as those first 30 issues of the cancelled series.

I've found that editors, in the past 10-15 years, at both Marvel & DC don't seem to pay enough attention to characterization & continuity.

If Jim Shooter has taken notice to the many editorial guffaws from the past 10-15 years, it's a surprise he hasn't suffered from a heart attack or mental breakdown.

Nguyen's Batman (i.e the way he draws Bruce or Dick) has always impressed me. I really rate his art and for that alone I pick this book up.

I really don't expect much from editorial these days, so the fact that they don't get that The Huntress has grown beyond this "I have to kill Man Bat no matter what I've been told by others with more experience with him" or that she stopped wearing that dumb outfit comes as no surprise to me. I wouldn't have even bought these past two issues had she not been in them. Dini has left me underwhelmed.

Nice cover, though.

Takes me back to how they use would appear on the cover together (albeit in different stories):

Yost writes a pretty good Damian, but other than that...

I agree. Dustin's one artist that I'd buy even if the writer took the issue off.

I enjoyed it, maybe Yost's best DC work yet IMO. Hell i enjoyed these 2 issues more than Red Robin. Not that Red Robin is bad, just having a hard time getting into it. Also the art was awesome as always.

Also i was glad to see Dick in the second feature. I like the little interaction. The Pairs Hilton of Gotham was pretty good.

For the record, Chris Yost was the writer on these last two issues. Don't blame Dini.

I know. That's I why I say I wouldn't even have bought these two issues because of what I'd read of Dini. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

CBR: We also have the Black Widow, who many thought was the weakest link of the Mighty Avengers, stepping up and showing how formidable she really is.
Andy Diggle: The new team leader is Yelena Belova, the "evil" Black Widow II. She's a bad-ass Russian agent with a chip on her shoulder. Very capable, very seductive, very deadly.

I'm just glad that this arc is over. There's too much "I'm gonna kill Man-Bat" and then Man-Bat rampaging that it's quite tiring to read through. But I like the twist with the priest and the 'God'

The art is great as usual
