Default Shadow Kat (Kitty Pryde) vs X-23

I just saw an interesting comment that basically called X-23 a stripped down version of Kitty Pryde.

Since most of my experience with Kitty is via Astonishing X-Men, normally I would find the comparison to be non-existant. However having just read the 4th Extreme X-Men TPB Mekanix. I am beginning to see the similarities between the two, with regard to background and personality.

I wonder if some of the ‘older’ X fans and readers who are familiar with the X-Men from the Claremont era could shed some light on this.

Thanks in advance.

Mechanix was a weird series that tried to insert tragedy into Kitty's life so that she could be perceived as "hardcore." They're nothing alike. X-23 has no personality. She's a drone where as Kitty is the single most obnoxious comic book personality ever conceived.

Based on your posts, I sense a very insecure person who is dying for a real human relationship..............instead of making snide snarky posts all the time, you should take a breather and try to put your mental house in order. I'm serious. I'm not being facetious or belligerent. I think you really should reevaluate your life. You are evidently very angry and frustrated, and your every post seems like you're trying to cover up your own insecurities and failings by making nasty, overblown accusations about other people. You seem like the cliche school marm who's never been with a man, who gossips horribly about every sexual rumor she's ever heard, because it makes her feel better--when really she secretly WISHES she was involved in any sort of relationship, period. C'mon, you don't want to be this way. Only you have the power to improve your own mentality. You have to recognize that the way you're acting is only digging a deeper hole. You have to decide to change.

Other than the Wolverine connection they are nothing alike. Kitty is loud and talkative and brings teh drama, whereas Laura is brooding and brings teh awesome.

Seriously. Just look at the scans. Can you see X-23 having that kind of tantrum? She'd have killed several people by the time she got that upset.

Her tantrums are taken out on herself and public restrooms. Kitty knows better than to destroy school property.

Without bagging on either character, I don't really see it. Kitty is awesome and Laura... has more potential than I would have said if you'd asked me six months ago, but they really don't have many similarities. Of all Wolverine's innumerable female sidekicks, Laura is probably the one who borrows the least from Kitty, really.

Since you mentioned Astonishing X-Men, to put it in Whedon terms: Joss Whedon basically split Kitty Pryde into two characters to create Buffy and Willow. You combine them, that's Kitty. But X-23 isn't anything like either of them. If anything, she's most like Echo from Dollhouse. (Yes, I realize X-23 predates Echo.)

And not that it's any of my business (and without attacking anyone), but darkness, you're not exactly disproving timbox's point by saying you slept with two women last week. Now if you say you're in love with both of them and made some nice romantic gesture to at least one of them, well, that would go a step toward refuting the accusation. Whereas if you just bagged two bar skanks at closing time, that actually kinda bears it out.
