The NY Times fact-checked it as well.

Not that Palin's supporters will pay attention to that.....

There were one or two of the points that felt a bit like stretching to me but most of them pointed out hardcore facts that were completely wrong in her book.

Facts aren't for REBELS!

She's gone ROGUE. Facts won't hold her back!

Adhering to the truth? Not what MAVERICKS do!

etc. etc.

Also, David Letterman is a pervy child molester because he "attacked" her daughter! Don't you know that? Also, those Ruskie submarines parked watching over Sarah's house? She totally plans on going all Rogue on them some day!

I wonder if there's a library in the US that will place this book under FICTION..... Then it'll be accurate.

She is, you realize, clinically insane?

I mean I think she honestly believes the things she says are true. Which makes her delusional.

Of course, being delusional is probably the Rogue thing to do.

My liberal politics aside I have to admit, Sarah couldn't have done better if she deliberately sabotaged McCain's campaign. Since quitting as governor she's made a ton of money giving speeches and other various appearances. She's going to make a ton more with the book and heaven knows what else. She's even looking pretty good to be the next Republican nominee but with all the money coming in I don't know why she would want to take such a huge cut in pay as she has plenty of political power even without the presidency.

I would guess the hardest part would be that someone would have to read it.

That's Bill O'Reilly's legal defence too. It's not slander - he truly believes the crap he says.

Has a politically based biography/memoir/any-sorta-book gotten this much fact checking before?

I mean, it's not like we need to know specifics; all people need to say/yell is "SHE DONE MUSSED UP DA TRUTH CAUSE SHE DUM!" and most people will believe them.

But going all these extra lengths to prove her wrong......it seems a bit much, doesn't it?

Routinely. Not just by the media, political biography junkies too. Thats why books like these usually have a index and footnotes to make that process easier and more transparent. This one does not.

It's not "extra lengths". It's due diligence.

Plus, in this case, she might have committed some shocker and actually told the truth somewhere in there.

According to the buzz, btw, the index isn't there because it would have taken much longer to get it done and the publisher wanted the book out ASAP. Good thing about that is that she can only ride it so long.

If she doesn't get the talk show she so desperately wants, we'll likely only have to hear about her regularly for the next 3 months or so. Once her bio hits paperback, she'll have about 2 weeks left to milk the attention and I don't really think she has it in her to maintain any sort of real public attention from March/April 2010 to Spring 2012 or even Fall 2011.

Whats really sad is I bet you anything that Palin believes everything in that book. She probably poured over that book so could relate stories from it over and over. I say poured over it because she didn't actually write it, but had someone interview her and do the ghost writing so its essentially been embellished twice, once through her braindead head and then through a writer who probably had a publisher directive to punch it up. And know her sad pathetic self, once she memorized the new version, it became fact in her head.

She's going after Rush's branch of the party so whether it's true or not won't matter.

I think I remember a pretty thorough going through of Bill and Hillary's books. In their case, they couldn't find untruths but they did find a good number of cases of skating around the facts, and ignoring information that might put their actions in a bad light.
