Default CBR: DC Bolsters Sales with Ring Promotion

CBR checks in with retailers to see whether DC's "Blackest Night" ring promotion fueled sales for last week's tie-in "Doom Patrol" #4 and what to expect this week as both "R.E.B.E.L.S." and "Booster Gold" get the ring treatment.

I didn't get a ring with my R.E.B.E.L.S despite buying from Forbidden Planet UK, first day of release. I didn't see any about but there were at least 25 copies on the shelf alone. My guess is they sold them separately and people who bought GLC snapped them up leaving the fans who actually buy the relevant books shafted.

Probably. It's what they were doing with the Blackest Night #1 promo rings in London when I went in there - Bungled them together with Blackest Night #0 and the BN postcards that you could pick up for free when the event was announced for about £3. Poor show on their part, I thought.

My local shop is charging $4 for each ring over and above the price of the book. I politely told them to take a hike.

To be fair, I read DOOM PATROL #4 and was interested in what was going on behind the Blackest Night veils. I wanna give #1-3 a try now. Same goes for REBELS (bought #7, 8 and 9 this week, and now I wanna buy back to #1).

So in that respect: the promotion works.

Sorry, sometimes my desire to look clever overrides my ability to be smart :o

And, of course, you're right. Others have said much the same about the Doom Patrol promo, and since I was getting it already but was worried about it getting canceled, I'm actually glad to have any new readers on board.

I'll probably give Adventure #4 a shot because I've heard good things about it AND the Blue Ring is just so tempting

You should report them to DC Direct Sales department then, the rings only cost 16 cents per ring to the retailer and they are meant to be freebies anyway.
