I regards to Luke Cage's costume... I loved his shirtless look in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. But that's just me

I do love great superhero costumes; BUT I do think it would be interesting to have a few people steer away from costume to just "really great outfits". When they are members of a team, it makes sense to have costumes; with links between them. I loved the costumes on Warren Ellis' Astonishing X-men, which has cohesive links; but enough difference to make it work. But when it comes to solo heroes and duos; why do they have uniforms? They aren't a team; as such. And since almost everyone in the New Avengers is not a "secret identity" why not go mask-less and costume-less? Give it even more of a "street team" feel?

I actually prefer his original gray costume over his Chris Cross version, but I couldn't find an avatar with that one.

So you're wrong again.

Well for me it's because it makes the comic less spectacular visually, and that's one of the first things that brought me into superhero comics - spectacular superheroes in fantastic, colorful costumes, that set them apart from the regular joe. Something that's just candy for the eye, sort of like sports players, especially football players, in their colorful uniforms, or circus performers, or any other profession that promotes wonder.

Agreed. But I would like to see one comic try. Surely a talented artist could make the visualness (is that a word ) of the clothing they wear, great? And some people will instantly have a "more than human" look (Chen's radiation skin, Blink's purple skin; Bullseye's target scar (is it a scar, by the way?); which would work. In the long run, I agree; being a visual medium we need the costumes. But I'd love to see one comic maybe do one arc without costumes. Maybe at a ball; that way we can get visually interesting dresses; and fancied up guys in tuxedos. Might work?

Oh yeah Kieran, I would have no problem with that, and I always like issues where superheroes are caught off guard while in their civvies, and they have to do battle like that. Those are always fun. I just don't like it when they're never in costume. Hey and as far as certain heroes having a natural "more than human look", I agree with you for certain characters. Examples: I always preferred Beast and Thing in just speedos because costumes actually take away from the awesomeness of their own natural look.

Regarding a costume; just give him a black "t" with an avengers symbol on it. And let him wear slacks and the jacket which he wore when he got his last power-up (it also has an enhanced structure, similar to his skin) and I'm happy...
I wouldn't mind the black Tee with the Avengers symbol, Cat, but I wouldn't like the jacket and the slacks. I never liked jackets on superheroes because all they do is cover up the costume. And slacks wouldn't be good unless they're stretchable.

I really like 4sake's yellow and black costume on page 5 of this thread. Very nice.

Also I think the one he wears in Marvel Adventures isn't bad.

Some people have said that Cage never wore a costume, that's just how people dressed back then. I'm not going to argue the point, but if that's true, then why not give him regular modern clothes that are visually distinctive?

That's hilarious! I grew up in the 70's, and nobody dressed like that!

It was most definitely a costume, and our friend Freakzeek just gave us a fun fact that it was a costume owned by an escape artist.

Luke was modeled after Fred Willamson

I did like that costume, but the idea of him just wearing an avengers shirt appeals to me more. But no big ass logo.

If I recall correctly he wasn't to thrilled about the costume either but it's all he could afford. I think the chain is pretty much the only thing he did like about the costume.

No KOSLOX, I didn't mean for it to sound like that, and I'm sorry if it did. I pretty much saw the guy's post, then typed.

There's racism in people of all races, and a lot of times it comes natural after many years of observation and experience, but you have to fight it, just like you have to fight any other dark emotion that could cause harm. But for somebody to say that it's okay for blacks to be racist, and all of us white people should just accept it, and thank God Almighty that we don't get our faces punched in everytime we run into a black person, is a very dangerous way to think.

Hey Freakzeek, when I bought my first Luke Cage comic back in '73, Fred Williamson was exactly who I thought of. As far as those so called black fashions you show, dude, those are costumes, and the regular black joe on the street definitely didn't dress like that! LOL!

They look great though!

Was he really?

I thought he was more based on Richard Roundtree's Shaft.
