Default Stormwatch PHD #24-All good things...

(No Spoilers)

Well, the final issue is here. When Ian Edington and Leandro Fernandez were brought on to Stormwatch PHD to do World’s End, I doubt they thought they’d be writing the final issue. But unfortunately, sales determined otherwise. It is a real shame too because this was one of the strongest World’s End titles, so I’m not entirely sure why people just didn’t catch on to this title. The stories were very reminiscent of Ellis’ Authority run in that we had lots of huge moral dilemmas and several touch choices that needed to be made to ensure the survival of the species. Stormwatch became the new ‘Authority’ of the world but sadly it wasn’t enough to save the title.
This last issue is told at an extremely face pace, which is not surprising since I’m sure there were several things Edington wanted to wrap-up before his run ended. Without spoiling anything, the one surprise is that we were able to get a resolution of sorts to The High’s side story. It was an interesting way to tie everything together. Plus we get one more dramatic scene before the issue is over which was pretty appropriate I thought. But as we’ve seen in previews for January, Stormwatch’s story is far from over. We’ll see these characters popping up in Wildcats and The Authority and I’m glad. Stormwatch has always been a resilient title. I’m sure we’ll see another incarnation (or continuation?) of it sooner or later.

I liked this issue, even though it felt rushed, but Edginton didnt have alot of room to wrap up all the threads he had going and had to weave them together fast, but still make it work and leaving some characters fates up in the air. From the previews of the up and coming Wildcats, its looks like the crew from the Red Blade and Alien race they were sent to gaurd against are going to be the two invading forces that the WSU's characters are going to unify to fight against.

I'm sad to see this title going away because it was just an amazing read

Finally had a chance to read this issue this weekend and I thought it was okay. I liked that the High's thread was wrapped and the reveal of the backing force was cool. I get the feeling that Edginton had a lot more planned for Fuji and the brief battle at the north and south pole was only a small reveal of his new powers from the Engineer's nano tech. I can tell that this was compressed to end before the creative changes in Wildcats and the Authority.

The question is where these characters go. Wildcats seems most likely. Authority has had the same seven characters in their line up that it would seem really odd at first to change that lineup. Although I would like to see Deathblow, Winter, and Fuji in the Authority if they do shift members to other titles. Although Deathblow and Grifter on the same team would be cool.

Yes, it's obvious they had to hurry up and wrap a lot of things up. But the good thing is all the characters seem to be headed to the Wildcats and The Authority titles for the forseeable future. So it's nice that even though they no longer have their own title, we'll still be able to follow them.

Well it's sad to see Stormwatch ending, I thought that it was one of the better Worlds End books, but it'll be back sooner or later most likely. The writer, and artist were a good team together, and made this book super cool. The story still continues into Wildcats coming up though from the previews so the story is only really half over?

Anyway, the Febuary solicitations for the Authority has the High, and some familiar members joining the Authority team! I'm betting that is the new line up for them, and the Wildcats cover has their main members. I'm hoping that's how it is, but we'll see soon.
