Default Who is your Favorite Hellblazer Artist?

Since the 'Favorite Hellblazer Writer' thread finally gained some traction and presented some interesting views on what people want from HB, I've decided to start another HB poll. So, who is your favorite Hellblazer artist? The criteria I used for poll options were 1) artists who had a lengthy run on the title, 2) artists with a lesser numbers of issues who illustrated a signifcant story arc, and 3) an 'other' option (in case you love Bryan Talbot's Annual or David Lloyd's Horrorist mini or Lee Bermejo's Black Flowers or Biz' recent two isues). As usual, please post your reason for selecting the artist.

For me, it's definitely Sean Phillips. Sean was the regular artist when I first started reading HB, and it's his Constantine I visualize when I think about the character. (I'd actually go with Leo Manco in the second spot.) One of the great things about Phillips' work on the title is that you get to see him grow as an artist-- his initial run at the tail end of the Delano era is very rough, but by the end of his second run with Paul Jenkins, he is a much more confident and stylish storyteller, well on the way to being the 'star' artist he is today. His covers were fantastic as well.

Just because his version of Constantine is the one that always comes to my mind, I'm going to have to go with Steve Dillon. Phillips would probably be my second favourite.

some are really good like Dillon, but I can't help but love the art of Frusin.

I am mixing up my Italian sounding Azzarello artists.

Apparently, I meant Frusin.

Richard Piers Rayner.
Dave Mckean.
Tim Bradstreet.
probably my top three.

I enjoyed W. Simpsons work when he was w/ Ennis.

I voted for Manco because he really stepped up his artwork, it became more loose, evoked mood and suspense.

Phillps is okay - For me he was a weird mix of doing things really good and then bad. I recall really loathing his covers during Jenkins run and wanting him removed from the book. I got my wish but they replaced him w/ Pleece, who I really couldnt stand.

John Ridgway is my favorite of the Hellblazer artists, but you've also got to give some real credit to the guys who first drew Constantine, Bissette & Tolbin, and also Steve Dillon did a heck of a good job.

It was actually Rick Veitch and John Totleben that drew Constantine's first appearance, although, obviously, Rick, John, and Steve Bissette were working very closely with one another at the time. I loved Ridgway's work on HB, too, but I have to say that having read Preacher before Dillon's run on HB, I was underwhelmed by his HB run, despite that wonderfully clear storytelling. (I actually prefer Will Simpson's art on HB.)

Leo Manco is the iconic HB artist to me.

Shame he didnt have the greatest writers of HB. Diggle run was short.

Dillion is horrible in this series for me i like him in Preacher,Punisher but not a fit for JC.

You cant give him credit for being a fav of Ennis and drawing the best written stories.

Simpson was better Ennis artist.
