Default Our dog food is Anti-Gay Marriage: AKA Buyer Beware

Sk and I, like many budget-conscious families, shop at Sam's. We do this because we can buy things like dog food in large enough quantities that they will last.

Today, we went and picked up a bag of dog food. The food we've been buying is inexpensive, but relatively good quality, and seems to work well with Lilly's somewhat sensitive digestive system.

When we were putting the bag in the car, I noticed a little heart-shaped symbol and a url at the bottom of the bag. The url was for marriagetoday.org.

And now you know what's coming: marriagetoday.org is a "Christian Marriage" site dedicated to strengthening traditional marriage, which, of course, means that making sure heterosexual marriages are the only ones that can exist. That's right, the money we spent on dog food is partially going to make sure that we, and couples like us, can never get married.

Needless to say, we'll be changing dog food brands. We'll also be paying much closer attention to the causes that money spent on various products may be supporting. To discover that your dog food purchase helps support hate is shocking to say the least.

i find it amazing that a dog food company would even step into something that controversial and advertise it right on the bag

Wait... why is a dog food company supporting Christian Marriage?

Let me begin by saying I'm not one for boycotts, because, to be honest, most are hollow gestures, done to make someone feel better. However, in this instance, I feel you are completely justified by this move.

What's the name of the brand so I can tell others, and avoid purchasing it or any items affiliated with it, myself?

Anti-gay marriage dog food?
I swear, markets are just weird.

Sorry to hear you spent money on something like that. Certainly not something you would expect.

For the same reason that In & Out Burger prints Bible verses on the bottom of their drink cups; they feel it's their moral duty to take a stand even if it costs them business (of course it also guarantees them a certain amount of business from other quarters; it's not an entirely selfless move).

Even though I disagree with their position, I do respect their integrity; at least you know where they stand, unlike a lot of deliberately-bland corporate weasels who quietly hide their support for their pet causes, while publicly mouthing the opposite of what their money goes to.

I've mentioned the antics of Chic-fil-A elsewhere.

Are you sure the URL isn't www.famtoday.org?

I know Ben & Jerry's support gay rights.

Just the other day I bought some breast cancer awareness pink diet coke.

If a company chooses to promote certain beliefs, then its totally fine to agree - or disagree - with your own dollar.

Breast cancer isn't a hot button political issue, though.
