Every year, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses chooses a generic theme, like "Hats off to Entertainment" or whatever, something nice and inoffensive and open-ended enough to accommodate whatever the corporate sponsors decide to throw on their floats. Then they pick a Grand Marshal. The way it works is, whoever is serving as President of the TOR Associaiton that year gets to pick the theme and Grand Marshal, and they usually just choose whatever celebrity the Grand Marshal wants to suck up to, for example, when George Lucas was chosen for a parade with a nature theme, and the whole city went "huh?"
This year they got it right. This year's Grand Marshal is Sully Sullenburger The theme is "2010: A Cut Above the Rest" and they chose a guy who perfectly exemplifies that. And they remembered something that happened prior to last week. I've had my share of disgust with the Rose Parade people, but this year I'm proud of them.

That's brilliant.

I think that's awesome. They have to let Sully pilot his own float!
