Default October 2009 sales figures: Who is Ben Reilly debuts in Top 10, Web #1 in Top 20

Diamond just announced its top products for October 2009.

Amazing Spider-Man #608 (the first part of "Who is Ben Reilly?") was #10.

Amazing Spider-Man
#609 was #16.

Web of Spider-Man
#1 was #20, so it seems that launch has been successful.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #3 was #24.

DC had the top six, but it seems to have been a good sales month for the Spider-Man franchise.

Surprising news, i thought asm was failing

i wonder if the sales for asm featuring clone saga related marterial will sway them to bring ben reilly back? I havent read the clone saga but maybe its possible they can restore ben reilly with memories similar to what was done with the gwen stacy clone.

Great month to the Spider-Man titles.
Usually ASM keeps a solid spot in the sales list but this month the sales even improved.
ASM is even back in the TOP 10.Great news all around.

And the Gauntlet in ASM have not even started yet.

Seems more like a lot of readers have early nineties nostalgia to me.

For all the talk about what a bad thing the Clone Saga was, it was a cash register for Marvel. I'm not surprised the possible return of Reilly and the actual return of Kaine resulted in increased sales.

Nor am I. I think enough time has passed that Marvel can revisit certain elements of the clone saga and, naturally, if they are done right as this story was I say keep 'em coming! I think it is important to keep in mind that almost everyone loved the Clone Saga of the 90's when it launched; had it not spun out of control and degenerated into the mess it was at the end, it would have been much more fondly recalled than it is now.

DC is kicking booty!

Good to see spiderman in the top ten again as well.

PS----I would not get too excited about Web's debut placing; the real story will be told a few months down the line. I think all the previous anthology titles debuted well but quickly faded.

did family #1 do good?

edit-

looked it up

October 08
139. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN FAMILY #1 = 13,549

it fell from there....

Id say if web falled that trend it would fall to the 50s and be doing far better than the previous book

Hmm... interesting. Well, at least Guggenheim had a good farewell gift. He's parting ways with the comic after a couple of years of hard work. I think it just fits that he at least leaves the title with something to be proud about.

I think its going to be interesting if DC actually puts out solid competition again. Marvel's monopoly over the market could kill the comics industry one day, in my opinion.

Hopefully, Image, IDW, Dark Horse and the smaller comic book companies step up.

I really do miss seeing more Aliens versus Predator comics from Dark Horse. I think I'll check if they have anymore when I have time.

While Webspinners #1 debuted at #17, and Tangled Web #1 debuted at #15 back in the day, Amazing Spider-Man Family (and Spider-Man Family) did not do nearly as well. Hell, the current debut of Web beats the sales of the first issue of Amazing Spider-Man Extra, which debuted at #50, and the previous two ASM annuals, in addition to all the "Spider-Man Presents..." mini-series.

It could easily have a massive dropoff, but this is a promising debut (significantly better than I expected.) Currently, this has an advantage over Webspinners/ Tangled Web, in that it should be somewhat more consistent from issue to issue, with events that tie into ASM and a Spider-Girl feature in every issue. That should help mitigate the standard attrition.
