I darned near wet myself laughing when the lead of NRNS taunted Van Damme by calling him 'Russian!' and Van Damme had such an extreme reaction.
Wins due to that silliness, if nothing else. Also wins due to having a sequal better than the original (sequal still horrible, but superior). Better villain (Van Damme versus...a bunch of kids). Can't remember the fight sequences in NRNS, but I expect they were equally as bad as the Karate Kid ones. |

NRNS...which campy knock off was that? Was that the one where the spirit of Bruce Lee came out of the mirror to train the kid?
Edit: I looked it up. Yeah, I was right. God what a stupid concept for a movie. One night of training w/ Bruce Lee turns him into Mr. Super Martial Artist. Uhhhh..........BULLSHIT!

Sure he does. Several of them. He keeps them in an old mayonnaise jar in the door of his fridge so they stay fresh.

The problem with judging Karate Kid as a kung-fu movie is that it isn't.
It's a 'struggles of adolescence' movie with a paper-thin kung-fu veneer. |
