Well, I think the standard number is two but let's take a look:
Let's look at the month of October (Cover date December) Geoff Johns - a whopping FIVE Green Lantern Blackest Night Superman: Secret Origin Flash: Rebirth Adventure Comics James Robinson - Five Justice League of America Justice League: Cry for Justice Blackest Night: Superman Superman: World of New Krypton Superman Keith Giffen - Three Ambush Bug: Year None Magog Metal Men Grant Morrison - One? Batman and Robin Peter Tomasi - Four Outsiders The Mighty Green Lantern Corps Blackest Night: Batman Christ Yost - Two Red Robin Streets of Gotham Gail Simone - Two Secret Six Wonder Woman So, how many comic books can a writer write in one month? Without compromising quality?

But for Flash Rebirth, most it was probably already written, the current shipping date is due to the art delays on Van Sciver's part.
Ditto for Cry For Justice. But WoNK, it's half Rucka and half Robinson. I think the best any of these people can do is 4 books as we see with Johns. The slower ones are probably 2 or 3. Last edited by CYOTI; 11-01-2009 at 08:26 PM. |

Exactly.
Geoff Johns - Flash Rebirth is almost certainly done, but Johns will be writing Blackest Night: Flash as well, so putting down "Flash" is probably fair. I'd wager that Adventure is done too, though, or near enough as makes no difference. With the amount of time that Secret Origin has had, a large amount of that was probably done as well. I'd say, taking all of that into account, 4 is probably more likely. Robinson - Cry for Justice is definitely long done. World of New Krypton is co-written. Superman Blackest Night leads into JSA Blackest Night, so I'd say that counts as 1 title as well. Then he's co-writing the backup tale in Action with Rucka as well. I'd say he's doing 3.5 - 4 books, more like. Which is a huge huge surprise given how quickly and easily he burned out back in the day, but it's worth noting that the majority of his titles are all unified around one story, one concept. Superman, World of New Krypton, the Action Comics backup, even Blackest Night Superman...he's writing a certain world, contributing to a certain mega plot. The difference between writing 3 totally different books with 3 totally different sets of characters and different tones vs 3 interconnected, related, tonally similar books is huge. The former is what Johns regularly does, and it's pretty hard, and I think at times he suffers for it. Anyway, just my two cents. |

Also, Rucka has to be considered...
Co-writing Action with Trautmann. Co writing Action backup with Robinson Co writing World of New Krypton with Robinson. Writing Detective Writing Detective backup. And for a while they were considering giving him a JLA title -- heck they may still. |

Wasn't Didio writing 17 Countdown titles a month at some stage? Along with JLA? That's got to count for something.
How many Bat-titles were Dixon and Alan Grant writing back in the day? Some writers can obviously do several titles justice (Moore on ABC, Waid a couple of times in his career), but some do their best when writing one or two at the most (Johns and Robinson spring to mind)...
