It took somewhere around a hundred stab wounds and being "Shot in a couple more" to bring down Big Jim. One guy with a knife made Leroy "look like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of peices gone".

But the song never said that Leroy lost, just that he was in one major battle. The other changed the saying from 'You don't mess around with Jim' to 'You don't mess around with Slim'.

Given that he was the one that got knifed up I'd say he didn't come out of that little encounter as the victor.

Leroy carries a .32 gun in his pocket for fun and a razor in his shoe.

But considering Big Jim's damage soak, and the fact that he's stronger than a country horse, Leroy probably gets his back broken before Jim succumbs to his injuries.

Depending on whether he bleeds to death before the paramedics arrive, it's either a "dead" tie, or Jim wins a pyrrhic victory.

Slim must be one bad dude to take down Jim.
