I meant to do this back when it first happened, but I never got around to it. Thought I might as well do it now.
Ku Fei's latest feat in Mahou Sensei Negima is a lot more modest that her mountain top crushing thing, however, there's one little subtle detail that interests me. Here's the scan of her 'test' that she administers to Negi when he's in his adult form. He has to beat her at arm wrestling--otherwise she won't make a pactio with him since it involves kissing, and she must never surrender her lips to someone who is weaker than her. http://www.onemanga.com/Mahou_Sensei_Negima!/261/12/ So she creates this crater beneath their table. A pretty simple thing...except notice at the bottom. They never actually impacted the table at all. Matter of fact, Negi eventually beats her. So it appears to me that Ku Fei made that impact with just the motion of her attempted pin, probably involving unseen chi or something. Just what kind of energy is Ku Fei putting out there to make that crater without actually landing her fist? Here's a scan that shows another angle on the crater. http://www.onemanga.com/Mahou_Sensei_Negima!/261/15/

Is qi a common thing in this manga?
If it isn't, then I suspect it's just a manga trope to show 'immense force'. Nope, she doesn't actually touch the table, but... Either qi or raw force, it would be an enormous amount, and unable to really quantify in any way, as the table itself withstood it. Sooooo...there's not a lot I can infer from the scan, myself. :( Except that (either through qi or otherwise) she's really, really powerful. |

Chi/qi isn't necessarily common, as the most common thing used in Negima is magic.
However, since the beginning of the manga, its been established that Ku Fei uses Chi is her martial arts, which is the reason why she's able to hang with the magicians of the series. Though oddly enough, in relation to all the other super powered girls and characters in the series, Ku Fei is always referred to as the one who is most "normal." As in, a "normal person." Asuna and one of the teachers also uses a technique that draws Chi into one hand, magic energy into the other, and then fuses then together to create a powerful new energy.
